Two years ago I chose WitW with my coupon, but now I am curious what you guys would pick!
If only Distant Worlds 2 was on pre-order! ;)
The voting is open!
Matrix Games never does pre-Order, and Distant Worlds 2 hasn't even been announced officially yet, so I wouldn't wait for that if I were you.
Have you played Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa? Command: Modern Naval Air Operations?
God - their Coming Soon section looks paper thin. :'(
CMANO
DC Barbarossa
It might be a good time to get World in Flames at 40% off
I'm afraid my love of Matrix stuff took a bit of a dive years back...there seems to be very little that interests me since a specific event took place there. Too many tablet oriented games for my liking. I remember a time when their Coming Soon was brimming with anticipated games.
Get DC: Barbarossa if you dont have it, it is a must.
Also Flashpoint Campaign Red Storm is essential.
If I have a discount cupon now I will either get Campaign series ME or Tigers on the Hunt.
Strategic command releases today and if affordable price, I plan to use my own coupon on that.
Speaking of which, Matrix just put a Christmas hat on its logo on their website... so soon .. sales?

Usually around thanksgiving so can't be far.....
I think right now the wargaming roster of Matrix Games is undergoing renovation, with tons of awesome titles which have already been released, and now those titles will get sequels and it's going to take a while.
Kind of like when a football club is really successful - so you don't change its players as everything is working perfectly, but then they get old and at some point their cycle ends and you need to renovate and it takes a couple of years...
And it could be related to the new engine.

Yassy,
Don't tell anyone, but I think that coupon might work for your entire shopping cart.
Anyway, CMANO is awesome and something I think you'd like.
WitP is always a good pick.

All this. I'm not worried yet -- they've been releasing a lot of stuff in recent times, and with more things being released on Steam they can kind of coast a bit as those get transferred over.
Back to the OP: if you pick Panthers in the Fog, I hear there's an opportunity to write a review for it on something called the "Front" "Page"...

I feel the same way and I'm rarely critical of Matrix Games operation. Obviously there is a market so I was thinking it's just me or my taste.

I bought the new Drive on Moscow with my coupon. I didn't get much savings because the price was economical to begin with but not disappointed (beer and pretzels ) game if that's to your liking.
There is no need to choose as the coupon can be applied to your whole shopping cart. Just get them all. :bd:
More things has been released under the Slitherine brand at reasonable prices.
And lately things just appear out of no where instead of creating hype in the coming soon section.

Keep in mind that "back in the day" stuff would sit on that Coming Soon list for literally years with almost no progress. I think they are now more disciplined about what is on it.
Yes, but alot of those were on the list for "years" because they were deep, involved games. That's not the impression I get now. They're either additions/expansions to existing games or tablet games ported (which always screams being on the lite side).
Thanks for the input guys.
I already own CMANO and I like it a lot! I dont have the LIVE dlc's, but with the tiny price they are I feel it would be a waste of a nice discount coupon if I order those.
@GJK: Actually I have never gone beyond watching the tutorial video's ! :) But it does not matter; its one
of those games I keep for a rainy holiday to bite into.
@Toonces: I do own WitP as well, hence my plea for help.
The campaign series look interesting, as does DC: Barbarossa.
Whatever you do, don't get DC:Barbarossa.
It's probably the leading candidate for winning the Matrix desert island test ("if I had to spend x years on a desert island with only one game from Matrix..."), and its approach is so genre-busting that it will ruin you for normal wargames.
I recently watched Gary Gallagher's Darden Leadership Ride lectures about Gettysburg on Youtube, and one of the things I took away from it was how good a subject the ACW would be for the DC:Barbarossa role-playing treatment because of the strong political content and the personality clashes (don't even think about it, because Vic's engine works for WW II but is inappropriate for the nineteenth century).
Sadly, I don't think we're going to see any more games like it any time soon because Cameron's envelope-busting vision seems to have been overtaken by economic reality.

No, they just don't put it in the Coming soon section...
For instance, they have said they are working on Field of Glory 2, Panzer Corps 2 and Distant Worlds 2. But they haven't put them in the Coming Soon section as it's too early. They probably will once they are a few months away from release.
I'll put a plug in for Polaris Sector, if you're looking for a combat-oriented space 4x that does a few innovative things. I'm fairly choosy about what I play these days, but that one's devoured 30 or 40 hours of my playing time in the month or two since I got it!

I second that.
There should be a law voted to make it mandatory to own these two if you're wargaming. Like car insurance if you're driving.
i second: Flashpoint Campaign Red Storm is a must ...especially with the new patch out O0
beside that
Yskonyn, don't become a victim of a perfid (and so very smart) marketing scheme, with a expires in 30 days 'pressure',
and the lottery if your 30 days hit one of the seldom release dates you were waiting for, or not.
Its not a 'gif to an old long time friend' at all, its just marketing, a personal gift would not expire (so fast) ...wouldn't it?
(go tell a friend or a date: I invite you to a nice dinner but only this upcoming Saturday eve or ...F#%& You)
As a customer of 12 years i bet you have already bought those games that where important to you,
and i am sure you have a list of 'nice to haves' also to get when on sale.
If there is still a title on your Matrix/Slitherine wish-list it make sense if your actual personal discount triggers your threshold on a title on that list
But if your wish-list has run dry atm, don't use the 'blackmailed to buy something now'-discount and better save that money for those games or DLCs that you really want when they get released in the farer or nearer future.
Personally i felt victim to Steam sales (which also expire even faster) so often that i can found a selfhelp group :-[
and bought titles that i actually only 'collected' and always postone to play until there are so old and there are so many news toys in my library on priority that i had them never played and finally uninstalled to free space on the HD.
Well, do you have Scourge of War? I prefer the Gettysburg pack to Waterloo, but many prefer it the other way around.
SoW is one of my favoritist games evar, so I highly recommend it.
I believe there's a demo direct from Norbsoftdev so you can try it first, see if you like it.

+1 for the SoW series. I think it and TOAWIII are about the only games from Matrix that I have gone back to over the years.
I probably sound like a spoiled brat, but I can't change the fact that I do own Flashpoint already as well. :nerd: Indeed a terrific game.
Actually I own TOAW3, CMANO, WitP:AE, WitW + Expansion, Distant Worlds, Flashpoint Campaigns, Harpoon series, Panzer Corps, Advanced Tactics: Gold, Armada,
@MikeGER: Sure, I know its all marketing, BUT eventhough the email stated the coupon is valid for 30 days, I discovered I still might have my 35% coupon available for usage. It's listed in my account page as one of two anniversary coupons; that one and the new 41% coupon I just got this year. So, perhaps its an error in the e-mail, or I misinterpreted and you only have 30 days to activate it to store in your account.
Haven't tried using the 35% one to see if I am correct, but if so, it would be a nice gesture from Matrix without it being a marketing scheme. :)
Still, if the discount coupon does run out, it would be a waste of a fine 41% discount; I don't recall seeing such high discounts in their normal sales?
@Toonces, I have no experience with either of those games. Thanks for the pointer.
I must say that DC: Barbarossa does look quite interesting. Been watching a few YT videos and there's a roleplaying element to an otherwise conventional wargame. Pretty interesting!
What about the Field of Glory series? Is that still being played?

Have you read through Jason and my DC: Barbarossa AAR's. It really is a great game.

With a coupon like yours why not go for something different and outside your comfort zone, something you would normally not get into. I don't know what that would be for you.
Why only one game? I got 3 with my anniversary discount last year. Even better, it overlapped with the Matrix Christmas sale and the discount was off the sale price!
I've been wanting to pull the trigger on Barbarossa for so long however considering I still have not been able to "get" case blue it makes it hard for me to justify purchasing.
Maybe I'm just not "groggy" enough
I had trouble figuring out DC:Case Blue and DC:Warsaw to Paris as well, and didn't understand them until after I'd played DC:Barbarossa.
The counter-shuffling part of DC:Barbarossa is streamlined and easier to get into. It has to be, because the real focus of the game is on something else.
Most of the units you are pushing around are full divisions, so the combat eventually becomes a question of changing the numbers in the probable odds bar until you see something you can live with.
But if you're playing the Germans, the game is really about setting an axis of advance for each army group, and having enough trains, converted rail lines, and functioning trucks to get supplies to where you need them.
In a normal wargame you spend part of each turn making sure you have moved every unit you can. In DC:Barbarossa, if you move a panzer unit, it burns fuel and starts to wear out. Fuel is always in short supply, and you never push your front line forwards just because you can. Sometimes you have to stop moving because you're low on fuel and want to build up your local stockpile for a decisive lunge. And sometimes you have to stop moving because too much is breaking down and your panzers need to spend some time in the repair shop.
The fun begins when you realize that the guy in charge of the trains and the guy in charge of the trucks don't report to you and probably can't stand each other, and your offensives are going nowhere if you can't figure out how to get them to co-operate, or at least to move supplies to your forward supply depots and beyond at a reasonable rate. Meanwhile one of your army group commanders is having a snit and has decided to rein in his panzer group (there goes your offensive), and you can't make him see reason because you weren't on very good terms with him to begin with, and you're currently feuding with your immediate superior over personnel assignments, so he won't lift a finger to help you (he can perform miracles over lunch with a few bottles of French wine, especially when he was buddies with the guy to begin with).

You are.
I really like the first one, Warsaw to Paris, and the last one , Barbarossa. The middle one, Case Blue, was just too many counters to push around for me. Way more than in Warsaw to Paris. Barbarossa has the fewest counters and is probability the most interesting war game I've ever played.

And you'll hate them even more when the Ministry of Propaganda decides to send a film crew to your headquarters, and Goebbels tells you to drop everything and squire them around. But you put up with it because you really don't want to draw too much attention to the fact that you're always too busy to sign the Hitler loyalty oath.
DC:B is the best wargame on operational level period.
I am playing my second PBEM++ and having a blast, for me playing any side has its amazing and totally different gameplay.
I hope that VR design will do another game using the same system in different theater.

They focused on what was important, game play. The focus of the game is on your experience as a front commander. VR doesn't worry about graphics (look at Advanced Tactics Gold). Players mod the graphics to suit their taste.

If you're at all a fan of space strategy games, then Distant Worlds: Universe is an absolute "must-have" purchase. You probably want to wait til it's on sale or you have a coupon, however; $60 is a bit steep for a game with decade-old graphics.

I was a beta tester on DW and have all its iterations. Definately a superb game!
@chemkid: Yeah it would make my Grigsby collection complete and add the missing elephant to the others. But like WitW (which I got two years ago) it is one of those games that will require some serious dedication to play and I am likely not up for it at the moment. It would end up on the to-do list for a 'rainy holiday', or some such. :)

don't feel bad. it's not that matrix is rewarding 'long' customer-ship, it's rather that they're rewarding 'strong' customer-ship!
eg. i've been matrix customer since late 2012 and got my 3 year anniversary coupon with a surprising 44% off!!
since finding matrix(was sleeping my whole gaming life, it felt...) i bought lot's of stuff from their catalog -
even that 'awesome' mwif mappack is slumbering unplayed in my basement!
so, don't worry and grap their season sale's by the throat and buy, BUY, BUUUU~iiiiY! ;)
...now, that i'm poor and yes, i traded said coupon for something else - i wonder what i'll do with next year's coupon...?
maybe some $3 dlc's for HoN = only $1.5?! iian said something about not trading the coupon... just for the fun of it - dunno?!?
still, if i had the choice and didn't own WitE already - that's the best bang for your discounted buck as can get!
scenarios are great, campaign is awesome, mods are good looking and support is somewhat doing it's thing for this version 1, guess they'll stop support when v2 hits the street...
I went for WitE in the end afterall. I am going to the shop in a minute to stock up on printer ink and paper and I am going to print the tutorial manual and the full manual this time. I learn much better with a hardcopy manual.
Then I am going to give it a shot, perhaps it will aid me in getting started with WitW as well as both use the same game engine.
Regarding my earlier 'game for a rainy holiday' remark ; chance has it that I have a little vacation right now and an actual storm is raging over the country as we speak. Its expected to last for a few days. So, if that's not a sure sign... ;)
Thanks for everyone's input here, chaps.

I have a love hate back to obsessive compulsive beaten wargaming spouse syndrome with WITE. Its so simple and complex at the same time that its like government work.
I am playing the road to Smolensk scenario for the umpteenth time and try as I might I cant seem to get across the Dnieper before turn 3 (despite watching countless videos and reading rules etc). Every time I play I learn another complex rule. This last one I learned that keeping your motorpool healthy is critical and willy nilly moving HQs and supplies to fast to far forward chews up your trucks until you dont have enough to supply your offensive.
WitE I hate you (but lets try one more time this time for sure I will breakthrough)
By a completely providential coincidence, WitE picked up a new patch this weekend! O0
Yskonyn, thanks for starting this thread. I just received a 21% coupon today!
So, what will it be for you then?
Just got my 12 year coupon today (41% off). Somewhat sad I just bought SCWWII - WiE when it first came out although it's a great game. Already own Distant Universe, DC Barbarossa, WitE (alpha and beta tester), and WitW all of which I saw recommended here. Modern stuff doesn't interest me. Might pick up Polaris Sector although I just got early access to Endless Space 2. Might pick up some of the dlc for Alea Jacta Est even though I have not played the original yet. So many games, so little time... :)

We like to reward our loyal fans and we've come up with a great way to do that. Now, just by being a member of the community you can get up to 50% off your purchases in the store! All you need to do is create an account on the forum and your discount will start building up! Remember to use a valid email address as the coupons will be sent to this address!
How it Works
On the Anniversary of the date you register with us you'll get your coupon! This date will be either the date you set up your forum account on Slitherine or Matrix, or the date you registered your first game with us. If you play any PBEM++ games, it could be the first time you logged in to multiplayer, as this automatically registers your serials.
On the Anniversary you'll receive a mail that links you to the coupon generator which is built in to the http://samelogin.slitherine.com system.
The registration date is take in this priority:
1. The date you registered for the Matrix members area.
2. If you never registered for the Matrix members area, the date you registered for the Matrix forum.
3. If you never did either of the above then the date you registered for the Slitherine site, forum or first played a PBEM++ game.
When Will I receive My Coupon?
To check when your Anniversary coupon will be sent go to [My Account]
How Do I Use My Coupon?
The coupon can only be used in the Slitherine, Matrix & Ageod stores. To use your coupon, add items to your shopping cart as normal and on the checkout page enter your coupon. Your coupon will expire 30 days after it is generated so make sure you use it quick!
Why Do I get a Coupon?
Because you're great and we really appreciate you being a member of the community. You don't need to do anything other than have an account with us to get one, though the longer you've been with us and the more games you register the higher your discount will be!
I Didn't get a Coupon!
If you think you should have had a coupon then check your Anniversary date at [My Account]. If that looks ok, then check the email address that the account is linked to and check there is no typo in the email address. If that looks ok, check your spam filter to make sure it was not removed. Finally check that you have not opted out of receiving the coupons here [Anniversary Coupons List]. If that all looks fine you can resend your coupon here [Request New Email].
My Coupon Doesn't Work
The coupons have been thoroughly tested so it's unlikely the coupon is really not working. Carefully check you have entered the coupon correctly. Make sure there are no leading or training spaces when you enter it. Remember the coupon can only be used once, so don't share it with a friend or you won't be able to use it! If you're sure you've done everything right then contact support and they'll help you work out the problem.
I've Lost My Coupon!
Don't worry, you can just look up your coupon again by going to [Anniversary Coupons List].
I Don't Want Your Coupon!
No problems! We know not everyone likes to receive mails so if you don't want to receive a coupon just unsubscribe here [Unsubscribe].
If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask! Make sure you let you friends know as we want to send out as many of these as we can to reward our loyal fans!

It looks like I should be covered under number three. I'm sending a help desk email to see if I need to do something else to get this working for me. Will report back when I get a response.
Just got Panzer Corps Gold, had two titles previously, but couldn't pass up sale+41% discount!!!
I got a reply from Slitherine on my support ticket regarding never receiving anniversary coupons for 12 years. There response was to wait until next summer when my 13th anniversary rolls around and let them know if I didn't receive it around that time.I asked why my account information stated that no anniversary coupons were issued and they said that would not be activated unless I redeemed a coupon. Bummer. You think they would throw one coupon my way especially since I never redeemed one. Oh well, the 13th time is a charm.
Spent my 12 year loyalty coupon on Order of Battle: Blitzkrieg (which I'll be curious to see how it compares with Panzer Korps's early campaign(s)); Scourge of War: Waterloo; and GG's War in the West plus the expansion.
Grand total after sale and coupon, a little over $53. Worth noting: OOB:Blitz was not in fact included in the sale (being a new release).
My 4 years anniversary coupon went for WitW, too! Sale+44%!! And what a great looking game that is! TBH, I'm not yet sure why folks want the map modded... OK, little bit more contrast would be nice but hey, atm it's a real treat for my eyes. See you later... Gotta invade Sicily...
Yeah I like WitW's aesthetics much as well!
Congrats on your purchase gents!
My anniversary coupon is due on the 27th. Is WitW the monster that WitE and WitP:AE are? Does it have enjoyable, smaller scenarios?
Still need to pull trigger on DC: bar and WitW. I want WitE too but that will need to wait until next sale I think

I've played all three. WitE and WitW are not in the same class of monster as is WitP:AE. The East/West full campaigns are huge and complex but their UI's are far more user friendly than Pacific. West has more complex air-war and amphibious landing elements to it than does East, making it the more complex of the two.
Worth noting: alpha work has already started on WitE2, as per the plan to synch it with WitW eventually. (The 2016 front page retrospective features a respondent working on the alpha. The game won't be out in 2017 however.)
What does this 'Sync' mean? Can WitE2 and WitW be 'connected' together? Or will there be yet another game 'War in 39-45' or so? If that's the case I would appreciate the WitP:AE getting the WitW/E UI overhaul. :P
