Title: Music for WWII Games
Post by: JudgeDredd on November 19, 2016, 03:53:19 AM
I find having music playing in the background incredibly immersive.

I found these on Youtube (caveat - I haven't played through them in their entirety)

German Music

Russian Music

I love German and Russian music from that era

Here's some British music if you are playing as the UK

And some American stuff for playing as the yanks

Or this one if you're feeling a bit sadistic in your war...

^ Not for 'period' music, no...though in general, ain't nothin' wrong with that at all.

The German Military Marches are pretty good, though most people lump any German military music into Nazism and/or being a nut job. 'Course there's a difference between panzer marches and Horst Wessel, though normal people don't see it that way; might as well be playing Hitler's speeches the way some of them look at it.

I've been using the music from the Victory at Sea series for naval wargames like World of Warships.

I suppose this won't count for much, but once while very drunk and reading The Rules of the Game (about Jutland) I had a highly aesthetic experience while listening to Rachmaninovff's all night vespers.  Well not all night, but for a chapter or two.

And there was once a Brahms mezzosoprano thing where the whole choir comes in (in pounding German) singing "All flesh is grass" while I was overruning some 88s on their transporters with the Punjabi recon truckers....that's one for the aesthetic record books maybe.  And it even involves WWII (admittedly in North Africa in the old Panzer Campaigns Tobruk form which I played far, far too much.

Now if only I had ever had the right Punjabi music it all would have been okay.

The Dasvidanya October March from Hunt For Red October ends out that Soviet list!  I think it's the actual arrangement Basil P used in that film, too!

Not WW2, I know, but my buddies and I always had the soundtrack from 'Apocalypse Now' playing in the background when we played Victory Games 'Vietnam'
