Yeah I have this on my Steam wish list. The demo on Steam right now includes two full missions, as mentioned in the article.
Anyone actually try the demo yet?

We're game collectors, JH. We shouldn't be expected to actually
play this stuff!
I tried a bit of the demo last night.
Visually very nice. The game itself is quite similar to Robin Hood: The legend of Sherwood and the Desperados series, and seems to have the same mechanics, just set in post-medieval Japan.
I prefer the Japanese setting to the Far West, and possibly even medieval Europe as far as having something amusing to look at goes.
The problem (and it may just be me) is that though I appreciate the stealth aspect of the game as I maneuver around NPC's green cones, after a while the game mechanic becomes a bit tiresome.
Some people really like it, and I should like it more (I suppose I might like it better if I went ironman and turned the cones off), and the game gives you lots of clever visual rewards for continuing.
But I think I would enjoy the game more if the infiltration were just a feature and not quite so central to the game.
If at this point in time I had to choose between playing Robin Hood or the Far West games, I would definitely go for this one.
But I think the demo will give me enough scratching for my green cone itch.
Having said that, I was within two inches of asking for a refund for Thea: the Awakening when I first got it, and was shocked when I looked the other day and saw how many hours I had clocked on it. So it's not always a good idea to trust my first impressions.

That needs sigging somewhere. :))
A little further clarification on the mechanics.
The mechanics in Commandos may be similar, but I can't speak to this because I never played that series.
What I like about Shadow Tactics is that you can rotate the map (couldn't do that in the early Robin Hood and Desperado games), and you can set the text for English and the voice acting for Japanese.
This causes English text to appear above the heads of NPC's when they say something, but to find out what the player characters said you have to poke around inside a log file if you don't speak Japanese (which I don't).
I'm not a big fan of text appearing above people heads (you can turn that part off), and I don't really need a translation when Toshiro Mifune says "Yosh!"

Signature? That should be Groghead's tagline!
