Title: Its Friday, to eat, so good
Post by: Kushan on November 23, 2016, 12:15:12 AM

It's Thanksgiving this week here in the states, which means a 4 day weekend for some of us. If all goes as planned I'll be out of the office by 2 tomorrow. Not planning to even think about work until Monday.

Haven't got much gaming in this last week due to a death in the family. With schedules at least returning to normal, I'm planning to lock myself in my man cave and do nothing but game for most of the weekend.

Elite: Still hanging out around Orion/Barnards Loop. Taken me 4-5 months to get there, now my OCD is making it hard to leave. I know its not practical to scan and survey every system but every system I visit is offering a different perspective. Its hard to not fly around mashing the screenshots key or saying "Take Screenshot" into VoiceAttack every 5 seconds. Going to do one more pass through the outburst of stars that extends out from Orion, then do a "quick" loop through Bardnards. After that I'm still planning on moving towards the core. Hoping to spend some time with my second account as well this weekend. I've had it for a little over a month now and haven't done anything except create my commanders name. With events coming to a head back in the bubble I really need to get on it if I have any chance of being able to participate when the aliens arrive.

CMANO: I recently started working again on my next modern Cauldron scenario. I have all the US/UK and EU air bases mapped in Google Earth and an OOB for both sides. Need to get the bases transfered into the game via import files next. After that it should be a matter of adding units to airbases and setting up missions. Unlike my first scenario I'm not planning on having a lot of complex scripting in one. How much i get done is going to depend on how much time I lose to Elite.

There's bound to be some World of Warcraft mixed in somewhere too. Cities: Skyline, CK2, or Stellaris are possible as well.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Are you on a alternate calendar, Kushan? :D It's wednesday where I live.  :knuppel2:

Anyway, over the weekend I am bound to be playing Battlefield 1, continue my learning to play War in the East, return my PBEM turns for Combat Mission (BS and BN), sprinkle over some MMO-ness with continueing the story in Final Fantasy 14 and probably delve into some tabletop wargaming with Advanced Squad Leader.

Looks like a fine weekend!

I think Kushan's reading of the Fridayness of this Wednesday makes perfect sense for those of us who are almost American Indian enough to say "Welcome to our Continent"....as for me, I'm heading up to the farm which has the gaming computer up in the manloft and I should be able to play such things as Combat Mission and Graviteam and ARMAIII and Attila:Charlemagne and CMANO if I don't get derailed onto the floor to play Close Action or Chariots of Fire or SPQR or something.  Anyway, lots of possibilities.

I have the first Christmas party to attend on Friday night with GFs work - a Florida based company so god help me if Star turns up

When I can see again there will be total war dwarves, been away a while and the campaign needs sorting

Civ 6 - the first Greek bomber is about to roll off the line and I have colonisation cassus bellis against India and Scythia

Now I have managed to get the ultimate mod working on a steam knights of honour I'll be watching a few lets plays as a tutorial seen as the HD mod has broken the in game one - all the arrows and buttons on the Ui are out of line - and then we'll be launching a Spanish campaign

There will be lots of football and lots of food over the next four days.  Saturday will be a potluck/D&D extravaganza with some returning players.  No doubt there will be some Civ IV mp and if things get quiet, I might break out Alea Jacta Est or Shogun 2 Total War.  Gus says I should.

Listen to the 'Great Gus'. Both games are excellent. I wish I had enough time to do another Shogun 2 campaign with the Darthmod.  :D

Yeah that's pretty cruel for us Old Worlders...I guess his logic is that Friday is a national holiday, which in effect makes today the day before the day before....Actually, that's still not right - we're in a faux Thursday thread!

Hello. I will be playing Witcher 3, of course. About 50 hours in and only 15% complete.

Anyone who is able should play Witcher 3 right now, after winning a Shogun 2 campaign.

I am trying very hard NOT to get sucked-in to the Holiday sales already spreading everywhere while at the same time, not wanting to wait too long to give-in so that I miss a really great deal. It's a fine line of pretend virtue.  \m/

You are a true master. Got Plague Inc. and Wings!

On the fence with Dishonored 2...I just can't tell yet from all the noise online if it's fixed enough to drop the dough.

Eh, not rightly certain, but I know I'll be shooting something or someone via War Thunder, Red Orchestra 2, or any number of other games.

Anything I damn well please.

My computer is together. I-7 6800k, 32 gigs ram and 1080 8 gig water cooled evga card.

So, I bought Witcher 3, the rest of skyrim. Plus my motherboard and video card came with Gears of war 4, Rainbow Six something or another, some Warhammer game and an Invite code and Bonus code for World of Warships, whatever that is?

Downloading my Steam games now and am going to lovingly pack the beast up to take it to our house in the deep woods for an extended weekend. I thought about getting GTA V while it was for sale but I think you have to be online persistently to even play it.

Nice new rig there! I built a new one back in May with a 1070. I've been loving it. I've had the whole week off and won't be back to work until next Wednesday. So far I've played some Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation, and Front Office Football 8. I plan on trying Husky in War in the West, and getting more time into Football Manager 2017, Battlefield 1, and Civilization 6. I've also been spending a fair amount of time following the World Chess Championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin.

World of Warships
Front Office Football 8

Maybe one of the Total War series, when on my laptop.  Want to do a new Warhammer or Attila campaign, but the campaign map runs like shit on my wimpy Nvidia laptop video card.  Especially Attila for some reason.   So it's either:

TW Rome 2
-or-
TW Shogun 2
-or-
Medieval TW2  w/ Stainless Steel mod

hrmm...

Nice rig Moreb, gaming beast/night light.

Perfectly acceptable start date for this thread as I'm one of the lucky who is off until Monday  :bd:

There will be too much food, too much football and on the downside probably some black Friday shopping :pullhair: and yes there will be gaming. I will continue my CSME pbem's, throw in some strategic command and top it off with HOS which I just bought. I'm still following the chess championship so maybe a few chess lessons and puzzles also. Looks like things will get interesting now in the championship after 7 drawn games and the champion losing game 8, he'll have to push now because the challenger will turtle.

- Civilization 5
- Master of Orion CtS
- Knights of Honor

If i have to play on my old laptop, a combination of these:

- Endless Space
- Master of Orion 2 (new game with the Elerians)
- Birth of the Federation
- Strategic War in Europe
- Stardrive 2 (new campaign)

My Secret AAR Project has dwindled down to the bitter end. So now I'm trying to decide if I should start working up posts, or wait a month so I'm not competing against myself for the AAR award.  >:D

I dunno what I'm going to play this weekend.  I'm definitely in the mood for some gaming, but I'm feeling a little...unfocused.  Directionless.  :-\

I'm sure some sort of space-strategy is on the menu, but what?  More Stardrive 2StellarisDistant Worlds?  Renew my Romulan campaign in Birth of the Federation?  I'm also contemplating some Master of Orion: CtS, as I'm hearing good things about the new update/free content (minor civilizations, Antarans, etc.).

Or maybe fantasy 4x is what I need.  I haven't fired up Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes in quite some time, and I haven't played Age of Wonders 3 in even longer.

As usual, Total War beckons to me as well.  Thorgrim's grudges in the Warhammer universe cry out to be avenged, yet I also feel the original Shogun and Medieval calling ot me.  And of course, reading Bernard Cornwell's excellent Saxon Chronicles puts me in the mood to fire up my Mercian campaign in Attila: Age of Charlemagne...

Last, but not least, I long for some RPG action.  So Pillars of Eternity sounds mighty appealing.  But then, so do my older games like Neverwinter Nights and even Baldurs Gate

GAH!!!

Overwatch season ended, so i got Medieval 2 with the stainless steel mod to fill up my time. I might get Cmano and the dlcs and do videos on them.

Also got a new headset, HyperX Cloud II, very sexy, i cant even hear the birds yelling. Might play some call of pripat with em.

Yes that is an option. Or go for a good desk mic.
If you're also looking for an upgrade of your soundcard, let me point you to the Soundblaster Z, excellent card and if you go for the Zx model, you get a headset amplifier that doubles as a conic desk mic (which works very well!) bundled with the card.

Mainly Strategic Command WWII for me. Think I'll start up a 1940 Campaign as the Western Allies (leaving the Soviets on AI control) and see how things go.

Christmas party aar -

Get sat next to the guy everyone hates - ha ha you fuckers

Eat really really poor overpriced Christmas meal

Disappear into a happy place watching a girl with stunning side boob on her party dress dance, only for eyes to slowly refocus and see girlfriend staring at me and shaking her head

Attempt to take down entire supply of Jameson's and bush mills fails miserably

Go back to watch side boob dancer because I'm drunk enough to ignore the laser death stare and I will claim her as mine

Retire to bed happy and drunk, room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking city centre, girlfriend says leave curtains open, I suspect there will be much naked fantasy window sex shortly

Fart and fall asleep without naked window sex

Wake up with awesome headache and not a drop of liquid in room

Check grog heads

Type this and begin quest for oranje juice and hopefully find side boob girl who wants to see my big window

Played several hours of Witcher 3. I like a lot of it and think the combat is far superior to Skyrim. What I don't like is the seemingly linear gameplay and lack of wilderness. Each locale seems too close whereas in Skyrim there were vast areas of wilderness.

Maybe these will change. I'm also looking for some mods. Much of the graphics seem a little too colorful and unrealistic.

Having learned a number of mistakes with a Pamplona campaign I started a York campaign in knights of honour

At 9pm I considered taking a few screenshots and starting a thread - at 250am I had to go to bed and it had been an amazing game session and I had forgotten the screenshots

I'll try and make a thread later but to encapsulate the awesomeness of the game after a few province improvements I hired a spy, he turned out to be a spy from east anglia and killed my king triggering a war between me, Sussex, Kent, all Scotland and Ireland and Germany

Played mostly Master of Orion (huge map and it's getting bloody - wars everywhere and i try to stay out of them while supporting my allies and Neighbors. Lost my main fleet against the Klackons but they are too busy crushing the Alkaris...now building up a new fleet while still trying to take the few remaining good planets...great game but i don't think i'll be able to finish before the update.

Also played a campaing of Horizon...had some good expansion until the AI empires launched a full attack on my colonies...now i just have Earth left...lost. Keep on forgetting how bloody good the AI is in that game.

Continued my Civilization V campaign as Japan (in Africa)....slow progression but fun.

Moreb as you play Witcher 3 you can will see more wilderness areas open up. The urban areas, like Novigrad, Oxenfurt, etc., really felt like realized cities to me too. Probably the best cities I have seen in any RPG.

I played a lot of World of Warships.

Everyday did a Scourge Waterloo session with Asid's friends and that was a total immersion blast.

Got PON  installed and patched in preparation for Grogs email party.

Friend gifted me Civil VI  and I did not even get to that this weekend.

Also, what's this multiplayer Scourge of War y'all are doing?  I might be down with some of that!

Every day this weekend including  Friday, Asid's group hosted a game in the afternoon.  Very helpful in training  on HITS play, they used courier only for communication. Very immersion, it was awesome.

I reloaded Gettysburg last night. Boy it really stands out what an improvement  Waterloo is with regards to Graphics, GUI etc... I have no desire to play Gettysburg like that. Hope they upgrade it eventually.

That's good to know. I love the glossary in this game. I havent had any time to play since saturday night but I hope to get a couple hours in this evening. I need to fix a shimmering effect I have for some reason. I hope it has to do with the NvidiaHair settings.

^What kind of NVidia card do you have? Geralt's hair was highly touted when the game came out last year :)

Yes the glossary is great too, I have spent hours reading it.

I have put about 50 hours into Witcher 3 and I am at Lvl 19. According to GoG I still have 85% of the game yet to explore, including the DLC expansions. It's the kind of game I think about when I am not playing and even playing something else, and also how I am playing falls short when compared to Witcher 3. I just can't get enough of it.

Somewhat to my surprise, I've ended up playing a fair bit of Master of Orion: CtS the last couple days.  Currently have a Meklar campaign going, and am enjoying myself quite a bit.

Considerably less to my surprise, I also played a good bit of Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion this past weekend.  Inspired in part by my current reading of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Chronicles, I started a few different games in the VI campaign before finally settling on the Kingdom of Northumbria.

It's a faction I've rarely played, largely because it's supposed to be almost fiendishly difficult:  Your lands aren't particularly rich, you have wild, aggressive Scots & Picts to the north, an expansionist Mercia in the south (who, by the way, is wealthier than you), nearly all your lands touch the sea (which makes you vulnerable to raids by Vikings), and -- perhaps worst of all -- most of your provinces have an abbey (which makes it that much more likely the Vikings will attack, as the abbeys can be plundered).  Sounds like fun!  :D  Depending on how the first few years of this campaign go, I may turn it into an AAR.  Might as well trumpet my glorious failures for everyone to see...

I almost rebought the original Medieval TW on Steam last night but in a crisis of conscience wasn't sure if I could look at the ancient graphics for long periods of time. That aside I think the original Medieval TW was probably my favorite and of the entire series with Medieval 2 and Shogun 2 tied for a close 2nd place.

Honestly, the graphics from the original Shogun and Medieval don't bother me at all; obviously they don't begin to compare to the more recent titles, but neither do they "hurt" my eyes to look at.  What does bother me (somewhat) is the less-friendly battle controls and the the agent spam (especially in MTW/VI); those are two things that newer games have definitely improved upon.

Each track from Medieval TW has its own YouTube page, and there's a few pages that have that have the whole soundtrack uploaded. The music is definitely one of the main reasons why I remember the game so fondly.

I've seen steady reports of graphical problems, running the old MTW on newer hardware.

Between that and the low-res eye bleeding, it was enough to decide against a re-purchase.

Yeah I passed on it too.

Oh and also, for those into this type of thing, one of the main themes from the original Medieval: TW is also in the Witcher 3, which is what started to get me thinking about M: TW in the first place.

A quick search on The Google will find it for you.
