A very small part of the movie, The King's Choice, but very well done.
What is rather surprising, is that the torpedo battery (armed with 40 year old White head torpedoes) was kept a secret that the germans were not aware of.
Thank you for the post. I hadn't heard anything about this movie-- but I'm hooked now.
Now this is really cool.
Those are the same guns in the movie, that fired on Blucher. No CGI or special effects.
They fired blanks. Probably the first time they have been fired since the 1950s. That's really neat.
Did a little research. The guns were 11-inch Krupps, that were built in 1892.
The torpedo battery had forty year old Whitehead torpedoes that were built in Austria-Hungary.
The deft Abwehr had no idea that the torpedo battery was there.
The shot in the movie of the guns firing was done using blanks fired by the actual guns. The fortress has never been dismantled and the last time those guns were fired was in the 1950s.
The next ship was the pocket battleship Lutzow. They saw the torpedo hits and assumed the channel was mined.
The guncrews of the battery were new recruits who had only reported a few weeks before. Each gun only fired on round and not reloaded.
