Ouch. Didn't see that coming at all....
I still remember him in the original Hitcher movie w/ JJL and the kid from Red Dawn. Scared the living shit out of me.
I remember him from Nighthawks with Stallone and Billy Dee Williams. One of those flicks that was always on HBO when I was a kid.
Hitcher was damned scary.
After watching him in 'Blade Runner', he made me afraid of Billy Idol.

Why is Maverick wearing a Seabees patch?
TIL:
QuoteOn Maverick's flight jacket there is a Seabee patch (best view is on the movie poster); The Seabees are the Navy's Construction Force. They do not fly aircraft and usually do not deploy on ships. Unless Maverick was a Seabee before he was a "Naval Aviator"?
Matt Cline kindly wrote in to update us: The reason Maverick had a Seabee patch on his jacket, was a nod to the battalion that built a lot of the sets for the movie. NMCB 1 aided heavily in the movie, so it was a thanks to them.

And so began the long, long saga of people calling me Luke Skywalker. (went by Luke most of my life) A few years later, it was supplemented with "Luke, I am your father". To which I learned to respond "Cool, can I borrow the car, dad?"
The most memorable recollection is from an early job as a pizzeria dishwasher. The owners brother, Vinnie, was an ex con, ex mobster who used to say "Yo! Skywalkah, finish the moppin' fast. I wanna get outta here some time tonight!" (read that in the appropriate accent from any Scorsese mob picture)

So I was in the local Goodwill the other day, checking for wargames, which occasionally turn up there. As I passed by the register at the front of the store I saw a gentleman of roughly my age buying a stack of unopened, blank VHS tapes. The young man behind the register, who looked to be in his early 20's said "What are these?"... "VHS tapes"... "Yes it says that on the box, but what are they for?". I kept walking, but a little slower, and sadder.
You should've told the uneducated youth that VHS stands for, "Very Horny Sophomores " with a sly grin and a wink. ^-^ It'd serve the little Perv right.

And to celebrate, MTV is doing away with Moon Man and replacing with Moon Person. That way it can be male, female, trans, or whatever else.
Don't forget that Night Flight beat MTV onto the air by almost 2 months.
Nickelodeon even had a Saturday night video show. But, Night Flight was the bomb all on its own.

Damn. That one hurts.
The TRS-80 was the first computer I had exposure to at school. That and the Vic-20. I can still smell them.
I wrote my first programs on a TRS-80 in 7th grade.

My oldest living 1st cousin (not the one who had the stroke) died this morning. Now there are only seven 1st cousins left on my father's side of the family. I am the third oldest.
It's sort of like waiting in the dentist office to get a tooth pulled except it's much, much worse. :(
My condolences.
Thanks for the condolences OJsDad, Gus, and airboy.
The TRS-80 Model III was my first computer at home. It was just the base model, sans any disk drive, so all I could do is write a program or two in BASIC and play around with it, but once it was shut off, poof went all my work. It was a big day when on my birthday (think it was my 15th) my grandfather bought a 5.25" disk drive for it, plus doubled the memory from 16K to 32K. :o

My mom used to make navy bean soup on Saturday afternoons. It would cook for hours. I can still remember the smell.
Me too. It smelled like, "You better straighten-up Boy".
the congressional cafeteria still serves it everyday. Very popular with the congress and senate.
Might explain all the hot air coming out of capitol hill.
No one's father ate liver hash though, no matter what navy they were in.

I remember that episode where the Enterprise ran into a giant cupcake floating in space. Spock told the Capt. that 'Logic' required him to fly over in a shuttle and give it a taste and then act like he really didn't like it. And Mc Coy wouldn't tell him through the whole episode that he had frosting on his top lip. :2funny: THAT was a great show. Happy B. Day Star Trek.

I remember that.
Back then, we also had to ask "betamax or VHS?"
When I managed a Hollywood Video, we rented VHS players and PS1 game consoles.
I never understood why someone would want to rent an entire VHS player...they were cheap-ass units, bulky, and generally a PITA to use, but rent them people did.

Back in the early-to-mid 80's those things cost a lot. Renting one would be your only option if you couldn't buy one.
like hookers vs wife cost benefit analysis.
