Post by: Jarhead0331 on February 10, 2017, 03:43:01 AM

I'm going through a Star Wars phase. Maybe empire at war with thrawns revenge mod and galaxy at war mod for men of war assault squad 2?   Maybe some VR stuff too...going to play it by ear I guess.

JH, Stellaris seems to have a real good Star Wars mod
... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=775944333
(I had stumbled upon it by a Let's play by Dastactic: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGB6RkFB7ZmNK9XcvlabaL-UkSJnx3pfH )

am about to install it on the weekend, well when i have blasted enuf Orcs in my ongoing Sanctus Reach campaign O0

This morning I'm planning my setup for a FtF ASL game tomorrow. I also need to digest some rules and prep my setup for an ASL match scheduled for Wednesday with VASSAL.

Not sure what I'll fire up on the PC this weekend. Some Overwatch is pretty much a given. I noticed that Fallout 4 has received some love from the developers recently. I bought it to try with my Steam controller last spring but didn't take to the feel of playing FPS with the controller (low intensity games like No Man's Sky were okay). Think it may be time to admit defeat and get playing it on the PC.

Probably Stellaris and/or GalCiv3. I was playing the Star Trek mod New Horizons on Stellaris but it keeps dumping me back to the desktop. It is a really impressive mod and I want to play it.

Another board game weekend for me. I'm going to Game On! in Issaquah, WA this weekend. Should be fun. I'll post some pics in the board game section.

Great tune JH. Dire Starits is one of my favourite bands.

Mike,   Concerning the Star Wars mod for stellaris, do you use all of those sub mods it recommends? There's like 30 of them are they all compatible with each other?

Well opening 8am-12-ish this weekend no worries.

I've been in a gaming funk. I don't know why though. But I saw GOG.com finally has Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.  :) Not to mention Caesar I and II !

Still finding my way in Distant Worlds.

Maybe Stellaris?

But since I got the news that Samurai Jack is returning for a 5th season, they have been streaming the entire 4 seasons on adult swim. So I have been watching a few of the episodes I missed. Plus they will continue to run the marathon until March 11th when the new season begins.

Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler are both awesome.

Will be playing Plague Inc. and Mad Max this weekend, and probably buy Darkest Dungeon for 50% off at Steam.

And mentally preparing myself to begin Alien: Isolation.

i plan to  ( so it will be the same mods like in that let's play)
From reading through the comments there is only one thing to keep in mind for compatibility with the long list:
That Alpha mod in the list is already in Ethics & Government + Alphamod  and a 'double install' had -of course- let to problems by some player

so it will probably be

QuoteMod list:
Star Wars: A Galaxy Divided
and
ISB - ASBM compatability patch
A Fine Selection of Quality Mapmodes, Probably
Advanced Ship Behaviour Modules
AlphaMod: Divided Loyalties
AlphaModPlus
Ethics & Government + Alphamod
Automated Behavior Ajdustment
Better Star Wars Music
Color coded pop status icons
Epic Explosions
Federation Leader Notification Mod
Food Imports/Exports
Fox Leader Mod
Gods and Guardians
IIC - Mandalorian Ships
IIC - Old Republic Ships
IIC - Sith Empire Ships
ISBS - Living Systems
ISBS: Doomsday Weapons & Ships
Imperial Routine
Improved Space Battles [Graphics]
More Events Mod
More Tilesets
Multiple Crisis
Nights on Planets
Pirate Ship Types
Star Wars Empire Ships
Star Wars Music
Star Wars Pirate Addon
Star Wars Rebel Ships
Star Wars Sound Effects
Star Wars Weapons
Stellaris: AlphaMod
Tiny Outliner
UI Overhaul 1080p
New Ship Classes & More
Star Wars: Galactic Civil War - Models and more

that's the list from DasTactic video #1, i will check this against the suggested mod list from the developer of SW-mod on Steam

so following that Let's Play will work as a kind of 1:1 instructional video for me
If there is a mod that makes text/icons to small so i cant read it with my bad eyesight, i will kick that out.
(i duno what effect "Tiny Outliner" will actually have, for example)

My gaming funk has reached about 2 weeks now.  Haven't even started a PC game in that time.

If I do anything, it will be DCS multi-player.

Been yapping about learning the MiG-21 for a month now, with little progress.  Probably due to the need for setting up all the keybinds & testing them out.

Then again, there is a large stack of un-played tabletop games glaring at me.  Got them for my regular PC gaming funks, and they work great for that.  So why not?

Because the R&RHOF is a pile of political BS?

Plan for me this weekend is to drown the pain of a double whammy of fixing my fridge and replacing my boiler mate with a lot of 12 yr scotch, Mad Max and football manager.

Maybe some TW Attila or Shogun 2

Elite and CMANO for me this weekend.

Not going to get the 200 million credit mission completed in Elite. Best I could do was 38 data points for 38 million. Couple of new community goals going this weekend. Going to go turn in the mission without doing any more scans and head out to try and get a few turn ins before they inevitably get completed early.

As for CMANO, streaming tomorrow along with my usual scenario work and beta testing.

If Historical Gamer frees up Sunday, we may continue the Stellaris MP game we started last weekend on his stream.

Bearing in mind that I increasingly seem to have the attention span of a squirrel these days, at the moment, my plan is spend more time with Sovereignty.  As I did back in the day (when this was still in early beta), I intend to fire up a campaign as my beloved Dwarves of Brogen Hur.

...That, and/or play Stellaris with the Star Trek: New Horizons mod.  I remember now that bbmike has mentioned it a couple times, but it hadn't really impinged itself upon my awareness until just yesterday.  Holy crap, this looks awesome!!  Can't wait to try it out!

Hit the pub, go on a wild solo bender.  Not sure if howling at the moon is allowed at all hours, but maybe it's time to find your inner intoxicated werewolf.

Maybe a PBEM turn or two and my next OOTP 17 Online league sim runs Sunday. Main activity will be a nice hike at Caprock Canyons State Park where the Texas State Bison herd resides. Need to unplug for a bit anf enjoy the warm weather. Supposed to be 90 degrees on Saturday but snow and 33 degrees on Monday with snow or ice . You have to love West Texas weather.

AJE Was slow to grow on me but now I'm really liking it though, I wish it was a little more up to date like ACW 2. Some of the scenarios are VERY slow to develop and a trifle boring. The AI is very good and the game will keep you guessing what's coming next.

This afternoon, Asid, Tuna, and I, teamed up as the French against some of Asid's other friends (I didn't recognize them, could be Grogs, too, but I'm not sure) on SOW:Waterloo.

Our task: take a fort. Their task: defend the fort.

They murdered us.

I have come to a related decision that 2-1/2 hours is not enough time to do even simple divisional operational map moves. Had I marched with Asid (Tuna was running a brigade under my command, but he was detached off on his own mission most of the time), we might have won. As it was, by the time Tuna and I arrived at the fort, Asid had been party wiped. His whole division, basically routed.

We were still strong enough to win, I think -- Asid had bloodied the Brits good, and we were fresh and outnumbered them substantially, so able to project power around the fort well. But...

(a) at some point my main artillery group de-synched from their AI captain. For the rest of the fight I could order him around but his arty just sat there. They shot at first, but once I ordered him to move up they limbered and then did nothing. (They did good for the time they were shooting, but I really needed them closer for support.)

(b) I made the mistake of trying to be picky about shuffling my two AI brigades in my backfield before the assault. Should have left them on their initial wings instead of ordering them to switch wings. The problem wasn't so much that this delayed our side of the assault (more than we were already delayed), but that one of my AI brigade commanders promptly went insane. The 3rd one maneuvered his regiments just fine: marched them up to assault the fort from cover. The 2nd got his 'mind' completely tangled and never again managed to maneuver his troops in any good order for the rest of the fight.

Tuna did fine... got his brigade overextended trying to protect his side of the fort assault, but he tied up almost the whole remaining British force (after Asid was done punching them), and by the time they drove him off (a cavalry charge actually killed his 'character' -- which I didn't know could happen, they seemed pretty invulnerable) he had whittled them down substantially. We might still have pulled it off, but my 2nd AI brigadier just couldn't get over his confusion.

I continue to be convinced that divisions are about as far as a human can be sort-of expected to command in this game; and that really humans need to run brigades, too. That said, to be fair, my AI brigadiers did fine last week. Also, I suspect it's possible for me to send orders to take over running a brigade directly, effectively cutting the AI general out of the loop until further notice. (Not quite the same as the "Take command" button, which just makes the underling general ignore his personality quirks as you give him orders.) If I can figure out how, then when I see the computer losing its way again I'll just treat the general like he took a concussion or something and start ordering his brigade around directly myself.

Had the bi-monthly D&D pnp.  I had originally intended to have the party find the entrance to the old stream bed that will take them to Wave Echo Cave by accident, then ambush them halfway up by Glasstaff and his minions.  I was going to have Malac's Pride (the bad guys that they invited on the adventure totally on their own) betray them and help Glasstaff and the goblins round them up.  Then I realized I had a better idea.  I would ambush them in the open.

After killing the gnome, the adventurer's looted the bodies and went to sleep.  The next day it rained.  They met a patrol of Blanton's Riders on the plains.  Information was exchanged about where the party was going and did the Riders Captain, Smithson, know where Hammer Rock could be found.  He said he didn't, but watch out for Hobgoblins who had been spotted in the area.  The Captain told our adventurers about a run down mining camp where vice, corruption, and chaos ruled.  The party made the decision to make for the camp the next day.  At sunset of the same day, Frath Windriver spotted a speck flying at the edge of the departing rain clouds as the sun set.  It saw his regard and flew off, out of sight.  An uneventful night passed.

The next morning dawned bright and cool.  The morning went by without event, but at noon, the party came upon a group of Scorch Tail wargriders surrounding a smaller group of Bloody Hand goblins and their three bugbear leaders.  The Hands were protecting two carts, made in to cages by floor to ceiling iron bars.  The party agreed to hang back and see what transpired.  The wargriders surrounded the smaller group and commenced to worrying them.  Two wings of Scorch Tails moved on the group.  Malac's Pride took the left flank as a group, inflicting losses along the way.  Our heroes moved willy nilly towards the remaining mounted goblins trapping the defending monsters.

Right then, Glasstaff landed on the battlefield on the back of a peryton, a beast with the body of a bird of prey and the head of a stag.  He howled his triumph and crowed that the Spider would be, "Pleased to come to a reckoning finally!," as Malac's Pride stepped up behind the party and started to disarm them.  Both the Scorched Tails and the Bloody Hands joined in the capturing of our guys.  The wizard, Glasstaff, has won.

For now...............

a followup

i was able to play the SW mod and all the suggested mods yesterday for several hours without any hiccup
some mods were listed as not updated to the latest version of 1.41 but the user comments in the according Steam areas for each of those mods said they will still work anyway, and they did.

i felt overweight and nasty last day, so i decided to start my game as MikeGER the Hutt  ^-^  in the remote corner of the wonderful SW galaxy-map. My main problem was i was not able to squelch the uprising other separatists Hutt factions on all my given planets and two started a rebellion and so i got a Hutt Separatists Wars as a storyline for my game if it would be a movie

as a side note i might recommend to leave out that civilian traffic mod. (ISBS - Living Systems) It adds lots to the atmosphere but i got distracted by all the 'fleets' suddenly roaming around my station when i had to solve a crisis inside! my own home celestical system.

Had a great weekend wargaming. We played GDW's Third World War with all the expansions, Southern Front, Arctic Front, and Persian Front, with full diplo rules and nukes. Game started on Wednesday after noon, I subbed in on Friday morning and continued until Saturday night. We managed to get 7 full turns, of 8 completed. We stopped there from exhaustion and the fact the NATO was well on its way to winning.

Very tired and hung over today for my flight home. I'll post some pics this week.

Friday night jammed with some old band mates on acoustics. Saturday played some World of Warships, first Ranked battles of this season. Saturday afternoon Waterloo with Jason, Asid and people from his server.

Yesterday tried to do some FSX, but just got frustrated. I reinstalled everything when I rebuilt my PC, but I'm having tons of crashes with FSX steam. Just pisses one off with all the money sunk in on add ons, that it's a troubleshooting nightmare to get things going again. Wishing I didn't go the Steam version.

Finally gave up and had a blast doing multiple bombing runs with Pe2 in IL2 BoS. Screw FSX, IL2 is a blast!!!

Spent Sunday getting the Groghead Christmas 2016 Dominions 4 game finally up and running (just in time to not be later than Valentine's Day!) -- I hope.

After that, I fiddle around with a secret AAR project (in the very, very, early preliminary stages), and did some Long War 2, and then spawned into a friend's Ark: Survival Evolved game and got found and adopted into his tribe (and helped him shoot down a rogue bronto at his base).
