Well, that still makes him more qualified than Caroline Kennedy was for Japan.  ::)

Yes, as ambassador you should at least be able to find the country you're ambassador to on a map.

"Wilkommen, Herr Ambassador! Ve shall be givink you the haus of our most distingvished Admiral von de Ostrian Navy!"

"Oh, thanks, I love The Sound of Music!"

(Context: long, long ago in my youth, Mad Magazine ran a parody of TSoM where someone pointed out that Austria is a landlocked country and so cannot have a navy. While that's true, the historical Van Trapp was a naval captain, in fact a submarine captain, for the Austrian-Hungarian Empire circa World War 1.)

If we are casting a Groghead's version of the Sound of Music, I have one vote for Brant in a wig for the Julie Andrews role.  :-"  :DD :hide:

On the plus side, this inspired me to create a Historical Von Trapp Collection for my oldest niece's birthday coming up next month: three books written by Maria (the first of which inspired the ultra-popular post-war West German film duology, and the Sound of Music afterward); and some CD remasters of albums and solos cut by the family in the US during their career.

She and her sister love the movie musical, so I'm rolling the dice that they'll plotz. My gambles on niece presents usually pay off.  :bd:
