Really a bummer that this series is not playing on Netflix US (though I found it on Netflix in the UK and thought surely it would be on back home)...I don't pay attention to network TV and apparently this is an ABC series that streams via Hulu (I thought it was a Netflix Original Series, which is stunning since network TV here is usually crap). Highly recommend if you happen to have access to it.

I suppose strictly speaking it's more like the scenario in the modern Battlestar Galactica, combined with the situation going out of Tom Clancy's
Debt of Honor: terror catastrophe catapults a relatively minor functionary to President, who has to cope with a job in total unpreparedness. (In BSG and DS, the minor functionary is totally unprepared; in DoH and DS, the catastrophe is limited, and it's a guy in contemporary realism.)
