Good. It appears they learned something from the SotS2 debacle after all.
QuoteToday Paradox Interactive decided to cancel Magna Mundi. It will not see the light of day under the current set up: Universo Virtual (UV) will not be part of this project any more.
The reasons for cancelling the contract with Universo Virtual include the following:
- Lack of progress; we have seen this project drag on and the code we have gotten has not shown significant improvement for many months. Some old and known problems persists and new ones appear with each delivery.
- Lack of trust; the leadership of UV has given a sunshine version of the project to Paradox and reacted with irritation and anger when we have pointed out obvious problems with the deliveries. It has come to a point where they claim the project is done, and the game is ready for release – despite the many critical issues found and reported on our end.
- Internal strife within the MM team; we have gotten information from members within the MM team desperate to save the project whom report to us that the project lacks active leadership. Key personnel in the project see what Paradox sees but instead gets silenced by the UV leadership.
All in all, these are not circumstances under which we can work with a team and it will now stop. At this point we have no more news than the above.
if you go to UV's "forums" you can see their response to the announcement.
Of course, it looks like their boards are 4 days old or so.

Ouch.
I wondered what was up with the continued delays.
No matter what happened, I'm glad they didn't release it in a broken state.
Man, for Paradox not to release it, it must've been a disaster!
BTW, has anyone heard any word from the NWAC dev team? They've been awfully silent on the whole freeze-up issue.

For sure! That's like being turned down for a date by the ugliest girl in class :P
^Hey at least I asked her!
Figures I was planning on getting this, my first foray back into Paradox titles for a while.
Given up on Crusader Kings II already?
^Haven't started yet!! Ye of Little Faithe. Looking for that perfect companion book and I think I found it.

Not bad.
If you want to read a primary source by one of the main Muslim historians of the 14th century, I suggest The Muqaddimah by Ibn Khaldun. Pretty fun read and not too dry. Also, you can typically find it cheap!
http://www.amazon.com/The-Muqaddimah-Introduction-History-Bollingen/dp/0691120544/ref=pd_cp_b_1
If you want something earlier than August on the Caliphs, this one by Amira K. Bennison looks pretty good too!

This one also sounds fun - The Great Arab Conquests: How the Spread of Islam Changed the World We Live In!

The problem with Amazon is that you continue to find great books as you go!
Right now I am reading up on Medieval Cities for a class I am teaching. If interested, I can give some books.
Seriously people, the movie stars Martin Lawrence. How can it be any good?!
Dunno. I think you're the only one here who's:
a) actually seen it.
or
b) willing to admit to the fact.
Gus just needs something more historically accurate. While Martin Lawrence's attempt was commendable in that respect, perhaps this is a better specimen to put 'ole Gussy "in the mood".

I wonder why Heathcliff hasn't been doing any movies lately?
