Ok, this is really cool. Since May 2014, it's kept over 1 million pounds of trash making it into the ocean. The NatGeo link is very good and informative.

way cool O0
That is brilliant.
If that little thing is picking up 1M lbs of trash it makes you wonder how much is getting by it. :(
Way to bring the room down.
Now I feel like sobbing again.
The is interesting installing these trash collectors in other US cities and other countries. A second wheel was installed at the end of last year in Baltimore, and I think they want 2 more in Baltimore. The word about it is starting to get out. Hopefully in the next few years we'll see them start to spring up in other places.
That's great! Now we can send all our trash to Baltimore! :bd: He looks very friendly by the way. And happy.

I think that's already been happening.
I used to see shit like that when I did shots of 'Old Grandad'. Except the ones I saw talked. And... followed me home sometimes. :o
Old Grandad will do that to ya
That was neat. Thanks for posting.
Seems like it would be rather devastating to the fishies though.
it only skims the top surface, and the connected booms float on the surface as well. There is plenty of unobstructed water below

That picture makes me mildly nauseous.
