Sorry MD, but this bracket is crud. I've only heard of 5 of these songs, and four of them are against each other. I liked your fake one better. And how did Billy Joel not back it into this bracket. ON second thought, We Didn't Start the Fire came out in '89.

Funny thing is, I've heard every song on here and thought they were all pretty popular in their time of release. And honestly, I am weak in a few genres. I'm not a big Smiths/Depeche Mode/Cure/Morrissey/Joy Division kind of guy. Not a huge grunge fan either. Sorry you didn't like this one. I'll call 1990 and ask them to release better music in the future ;)

Funny that you have Thunderstruck as the #1 seed. I'd never even put it in my bracket. It's probably the one AC/DC song I truly hate.
Yeah, Thunderstruck is one of the weaker popular AC/DC tunes out there. But I hate Faith No More so there you go....

74-75 was an awesome tune by those guys.
Still learning the audience. I wouldn't have put Thunderstruck in there at all as I have an aversion to most things AC/DC. But they play the s*it out of it on the radio, so....

And if either of them had songs out in my time frame, I'd probably include them. Putting this together is an exercise in what I like, what I heard or read was supposed to be good, what I think a songs historical impact might be and any other stupid rationalization I can come up with including, "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it." Another thing while I am giving insight, the year end Billboard Hot 100 has songs that were released in the prior year. In some cases I have included them in the year they were popular rather than the year it was released. Why? Didn't know, didn't care. But, if I found out some other way when it was released and it did not meet my year, then I left it out. See? Unscientific as hell. But I'm digging it and I hope you guys are, too :)
Edited to add: I saw that some of you didn't know the songs. It's the real reason I include videos for them. Maybe you don't know the song, you play the video, you discover something new that you like. THAT is my ultimate goal. The hunt for one song is just the exercise.
