Microsoft had released a patch for the vulnerability in March.

Hell the virus could have been on the systems for months before the attack was launched. The FBI has been telling businesses to pay the ransom.

well this is terror not a crime,
find out who did it with all agencies on board and send a (clandestine, as in Northern Ireland in the good ol'days) SAS detachment to take those out... and then report about it as a deterrent for any copycats.

I agree. The people who are doing this are terrorists. How long will it be before they take control of an electrical grid or the like and demand a ransom from a government? The fear of God and special ops needs to be put in them.

Then we will need to have assets in place in St Petersburg and Moscow to facilitate the strike because I'm certain that somehow this all comes back to the Vlad Squad.

Good point and likely true.....

Russia, Ukraine and India were hit the hardest.

That just gives the Kremlin Kleptocracy a fig leaf of plausible deniability. Besides, why should the Vlad Squad be squeamish about extorting money from ordinary Russians?

concerning us Grogs, i have read in the newspaper this morn that Windows 10 users were never endangered.

i recon most of the wargamers are on Windows 10 in the meantime, at least with their main PC,
some on-travel laptops and older second PC system, that are also still in the household might be not.

There are maybe Windows 7 holdouts amongst ourselves.  There's some talk about this in the Graviteam Tank Warfare thread.

KB4012212
KB4015552
KB4019263

This is according to my local PC security experts.

And be the hell careful what email links you click on.

I'm sure it'll bite me in the arse some day, but if I have any emails that I'm not sure about, I'll open them on my android based phone and not one of my windows based machines.
