So I spent literally about 4 hours today trying to get Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries running on my primary rig. I just couldn't get it done. I know many people have problems running it on win10 with modern gpus, but I also know it can be done. I tried all the tips and tricks to no avail. Very painful and frustrating. There is just no modern game that offers that kind of giant robot, immersive, fully featured single player action. Why, oh why, did the industry stop making such fantastic titles? I'm hopeful for MW5, but that's not coming until 2018.
A few months ago I blew an afternoon trying to get Heavy Gear 2 running. Another game that has faded into the to twilight of history. The new one they are working on is a great disappoint thus far. Such a shame. I just want to grab the industry by the shoulders and shake violently. With the technology available today, they could make such amazing games...
You know that the mechwarrior online team is making a separate game dedicated to single player right. It's on a different engine as well.

^ummm. Yes. I mentioned it in my post. :crazy2:
Seems crazy it's been soooooooooooo long since there was a decent Mech game.
I got huge kicks out of Titanfall 2- but it was short lived even though I played it twice.
I see that you have!! Sorry.
I agree that the new one does look disappointing so far. I really doubt it has the budget for a properly immersive and acted campaign.
Fingers crossed though. But Star Citizen is where it is at.
I'd love to see a proper Heavy Gear 3.
One solution that will allow play of these mech classics is to make your rig dual boot with the option of XP as well as Windows 10.

I don't think Windows is my problem, at least not with MW4. I think the problem is my gpu. I even tried using dgvoodoo2 though, but that didn't work either. Maybe I'm using it wrong?
I'm lucky to have a spare room where I keep an older PC running WinXP, kept it originally to run Fighting Steel but have since used it for other titles (some older Tiller Battleground games etc)
That thing boots in what? 4 minutes? 😜
My WinXPSP2 laptop (at the time a very serviceable desktop replacement machine, basically a super-portable desktop) can boot up in 30 seconds or less.
That said, I'm sure I've used The Presence (running Win 8 and at the time a top-line NVIDIA SLI 600 series) to play Mechwarrior 4. Not in the past couple of years unfortunately, so I don't know what if anything I needed to do to get it running.
Well, after trying and failing to get MW4 running once again, I tried on my backup rig. It runs win8.1 and has a GeForce 970. Game loads and run fine without any hassle. Such a pain in my butt. More than 4 hours of a prescious weekend day I will never get back again. LoL
At least you can bask in the MW4 again. (And in its full motion video segments. >:D )
