There used to be Trolleys in DC into the 1960s. They gave a nicer ride than the buses. There's a nice museum in Silver Spring.

Athens, Greece had a pretty extensive system for public transportation as late as 1975. Not sure if they have kept it up. Only problem was at that time Greek men did not use deodorant. When you had fifty guys holding onto straps...
