It's disheartening that it would even be a topic of discussion.
There's been a ton of politics around this movie. I've tried to avoid reading about most of it.
^Yeah, that Amazonian Attack on the U.S back in the pre-Flashpoint DC universe has really made them controversial :P
As for why it is a discussion,
It's the age of making sure they're turning enough previously non-black characters, black.
They need to know how their quotas fare.

Go read some of the stuff about how this is a Feminist triumph in the Age of Trump. And how it contrasts with the anti-Feminist attitudes that hurt the Ghostbusters reboot. It's not hard to find and it's kinda nauseating.
It's not enough that Wonder Woman is a good movie and Ghostbusters was not. There has to be some social/political statement associated with it.
