Cool link - thanks.

I've got to be honest - that looked da bomb!  :notworthy:

If they make a pirate open world RPG style game like Far Cry or Wildlands, then this could very possibly tickle me fancy

Piracy game.

I'm always amazed to see people go to a lot of trouble to seemingly model sailing ships and then give them power steering not to mention
guns that would capsize them or crush the deck.  And why would they need a whole battery (and what pirate ever had a ship with more than 40 guns? -- none, not one -- these guys have 3-deckers with over 100 guns all over 24 pdrs) if one hit will completely disable the enemy?  Never mind that just carrying what they are that high up would be the end of your own ship long before you brought them to a rocky coast for which you should be hung just for approaching -- never mind being a pirate -- they should all be hung for endangering their ships.

It's a game - not a historical simulator  :P

Seriously though - it is a game.

Kind of interesting that this will be set in the Indian Ocean, but my head is thinking "Wait, does that mean this is a coastal game? Not many islands out there -- Ceylon, Socotra if that even counts as Indian Ocean..."

Let's not forget Indonesia, the place is nothing but islands.  Still pretty wild and off the grid in many parts with piracy still going on in remote areas.

Sure, but why not steampunk it up?  Why bother with quasi-sailing ships?

IIRC this is MP only - I will stick with Black Flag.

I got all squirmy and warm-loined when I saw this announcement, but then I saw the fine print and saw it was MP only.

I really loved the sailing in Black Flag, the feel of the ship, all the different wave states and so forth. I would love to see them start with that, tweak the realism up just a little (especially by adding wind direction!) and make a pirate RPG. Screw the Assassins' Creed series, that is some tired crap, story wise, but the gameplay in Black Flag would be a fine basis for a good pirate RPG.

If this lands, we may still get a singleplayer campaign some day.

Until then we always have Man-o-War.  >:D

I would much prefer the Indonesia area for just that reason. But does that count as the Indian Ocean?  ???

The waters around Indonesia are various Seas (South China Sea, Java Sea, etc.)  To the west coast of Indonesia is the Indian Ocean.

Plus I think that the bulk of piracy during the golden age of piracy was in the Indian Ocean proper, Caribbean and Red Sea, and not near Indonesia.
