Post by: steve58 on June 28, 2012, 12:10:41 PM
Matrixgames/Slitherine latest newsletter has 50% off codes for Time of Fury.  Knocks the price down to ~$25 (digital download).  I've already got ToF, so if anyone is interested (and doesn't get the newsletter), PM me for a code.
Code can be used twice.

Is it any good? I heard it was problematic at best.

To be honest, I've not played it much.  Its one (of many) on my backlog list....

I played the original version. It was fun but had some problems, particularly the naval portion. Maybe they improved it.

The naval protion was improved.... mybe too much. Now it's a bit of micromanagement. The rest of the changes are good and it's still being worked on.
The only thing that really bugged me was how minor allies are handled.

Over all it's not a bad medium level grand strategy game.

What's up with the Minors? I'm thinking of grabbing this one as well.

Well... Every country is it's own entity. The minors are totally autonomous and even if you chose to play them ie micromanage, they have a turn that is completely separate from their major power. Things means no direct coordination of attacks etc.

Leads to some really weird results.

I got the newsletter with codes as well and have zero desire to buy this game.  So if you want the code, feel free to PM me as well and you can have it.

I was really looking for a hex based, turn based WWII strategy game with PBEM.  So was really looking forward to it.  But I have found the PBEM main campaign to be unplayable....basically in my experience, uber Germans have the run of the board.   Strangely, the player vs. AI game is OK.

The game could really be something with the right amount of TLC.  But patches have been very slow IMHO.  I think there has actually only been one official patch (I could be wrong on this).  There is a beta patch floating out there but I haven't tried it.
