Title: The 'Best Gaming Intentions' Friday gaming thread
Post by: undercovergeek on June 29, 2012, 08:33:19 AM
Id like to think we werent like women with their shoe shopping and hand bag shopping, ooo those ones, that one, no this one, no that one, with these ones!! But i fear my gaming buddies, that we are just that - its a beautiful list of all things planned and strategically laid out when it starts but it never, ever happens the way it should.

What sparkly shortcut on the desktop will turn your eye from your thoughtful campaigning this weekend, or maybe we should just have a Monday - what i wanted to game but ended up gaming thread.

For me personally i have hunted around for 2 weeks trying to find a good, immersive game to disappear into like a warm coat, the game that prompts you to press mute on the TV for a few mins and think 'hang on, if i go there, and he goes there, then i can do this....... i will try that as soon as i get my ass off the sofa/settee/couch (i choose sofa)' and came here and asked, scoured review sites and gaming sites, and it was already there, sat on the desktop, courtesy of Staggerwing and his US sales that dont apply to us UK guys! I give you CK2 and im right back in it, like i never left, fearful of starting less i dont get immerssed - what a fool i was.........

So, ill be playing CK2
Doing some CM Sicily testing
Doing some AJE testing
and taking part in a CMBN PBEM
with maybe a bit of endless space

and some GRFS on PS3

and a bit of Defcon - there, ive finished

and some Warlock

Goddammit!!!!

I've got my usual Armada 2526 Supernova PBEM campaigns with my fellow Grogs, of course.

More 4x action with Distant Worlds: Legends

I'm feeling the call of Warring-States China calling me as well, so perhaps some Sango 2

Maybe some Plague Inc. on the iPad.

Not a damn thing - I'll be at a family reunion all day Saturday, and on the road home on Sunday.

I just finally won my Shogun 2 campaign and now I'm kind of in between whether to go back and work on some other old TW games or get back to CMBN, helping the guys get down that damned road to Monteborg I never finished. Until I get  a feeling one way or the other, I'll probably just work-out my frustration by killing things in Skyrim.

My parents are in town most of the weekend so I doubt I will get any gaming in.  Maybe some boardgames.

Perhaps I will die from this chest cold I have contracted from MiniGus 2.

If not, maybe the 100 degree heat will get me.

If I can hang in there, I plan to call off my war of aggression on Lhasa in Civ V G&K, as it's going no where as my English are being left in the dust by the Arabians and Persians.

Haha, great post undercovergeek!

I finally got one of those "job" things (just got the call two hours ago) so this weekend I may finally treat myself to a copy of Endless Space.  I don't play betas very often, especially games I'm pretty sure I'll like anyway, but this one is just too damn tempting.

In addition, I will surely be playing some Rift this weekend as 1.9 just got released and made the best theme-park-style MMO even betterer.  Oh, and I picked up that curious little indie tower defense game, Cubemen, a couple of days ago so I'll look into that too.

Other than that, who knows?!

Thanks mate!  I'm quite pleased with myself because it was a gruelling selection process, and the job market is horrendous in the UK at the moment.  I've completely run out of money in the meantime, but it's nice to know it'll start coming in again soon. :)

The mrs. and I just switched cell phone providers and have new phones coming today, so I expect Saturday to be devoted to learning how to use them and porting everything over.  Sunday I hope to finish my Gods & Kings Byzantium campaign, and perhaps get some time in with CK 2 to see what the patch did.

Heading off on a set of beach vacations along the East Coast of the US.  Friday night before heading out on Saturday
I'll play some CMBN:CWF and some Combat Aces and maybe some Campaigns of Napoleon.

Maybe on the trip I'll buy some Virigin Queen and force the rest of the vacationers to play a few rounds.

Congrats Huw!

I hope to play some of the Secret World headstart tonight. Tomorrow I will be away for a boardgame day (yippee!). Not sure what we are going to play. Maybe Fortress America, maybe Descent.

This weekend, IF the power grid doesn't collapse due to the heat wave (currently 101F here in northern Virginia), gonna get deeper into Endless Space and play some more Gods+Kings.

p.s.  Congrats on the new job Huw!

Thanks everyone!  As for what I do...well, the long-term plan is to get LPIC certified and become a Linux sysadmin.  In the meantime, I've had no career as such, just flitted from job to job.  The job I start in a couple of weeks is a share plan administrator.  Ya know, when firms give share incentives to their employees, and decide to outsource the administration of those plans...that's where I'll come in.

In other news, I did buy Endless Space!  I'm going to crack open some wine and have a good old sesh. :D

IF...and that's a big IF, I can find the time, I'd like to play some more Civ V G&K...I have a nice game going as Rome.  I'd also like to play some GRFS and some Spec Ops: The Line, both on PC and maybe even some Amazing Spiderman on the Xbox.

Unfortunately, I'm running all over the place this weekend so not sure just how much time I'll have to play.

JH - I have some spare cash - what's Spec Ops:The Line like? I guess 'cos I'm playing GR:FS it may be worth asking how it compares gameplay wise?

If you are considering spec ops, hold off...rumor is that it will be 50% off in the upcoming amazon sale, which gives you a steam key I believe.

I don't see any reason to break away from my standbys of Rise of Flight and Red Orchestra 2.

I also hope to spend some time with Ageod's American Civil War and I can't rule out Scourge of War.

Huw, congrats on the job!  You deserve to treat yourself!  IF I get a chance this weekend, it will be an ongoing CIV IV BTS with a buddy.  If not, IRL, well, I'm not at liberty to say...;-)

Me, myself, I plan on dropping in on Tamriel. I'm just not sure what part yet.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.wikia.com%2Felderscrolls%2Fimages%2F8%2F83%2FTamriel_map.gif&hash=8eccaa5fca5f9e68724312e900270b6245d31749)

I'm also still trying to revive one of my old XP 'puters so I can load and learn to play Russo-Germanic War. For some strange reason Win7 seems to have taken a strong dislike to it...

Congratz on the job, Huw. I recently rejoined the ranks of the steady paycheck -- it's a nice feeling, innit? I can see a path of game titles stretched out the horizon. . .

I'll probably finish my 2nd Warlock game.  2 Opponents are toast & 1 remains.  Probably put some more work into the Combat Mission strategy guide.

Poker tomorrow.  Swim in the pool since it is 100 degrees.

Having just finished a 14 hour shift covering for a couple of sick call ins (conveniently at the start of a long weekend...hmmm...), I currently feel like playing 'murder people' and 'let's loathe humanity'. But tomorrow, I'll probably be ready to get back in to LA Noire, and maybe play a bit more Mini Ninjas.

Heh, it is indeed.  My list is 39 titles long, and that's just the solid, will-definitely-buy list, never mind all the other games I'm investigating!  I had to miss out on all the sales last Christmas...that hurt.

Got sucked into Warlock, as usual these days, although I have been doing some play testing on NaW scenario's that some of you guys may be lucky enough to play at the WBC event.

A wee bit far for me to get to, but I shall be there in spirit.

I spent most of last night playing Audiosurf with my daughter, but I did manage to play the Shiloh scenario in AACW after reading Spelk's walkthrough on Sugarfreegamer.  I still don't quite get what's going on though, but it's a start and at least I played something I said I would play!

I'm going surfing all day so I don't know how much gaming I'll get in today and tonight.

WazHack
UnReal World
  - Since it's Free to d/l today!

I still have the good 'ole faithful Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and TOME on backup, since this is another Roguelike weekend.

I've also dabbled in Project Zomboid but mostly been impatient about a sizable update to it that's supposed to be out any day now.   Damn, the development is slow on that one.  :-\

Edit:  Oh crap!  I just checked for the Project Zomboid patch, after mentioning it here, and it was released yesterday afternoon!

Time to survive some Zombie Apocolyptes this weekend!  8)

Supposed to be working but I'm coughing up lung butter so I'm just festering in my pit.

I fired up Silent Hunter IV and was having a lot of fun with it until I started getting weird graphical corruption and CTDs.  Nothing like spending an hour manoeuvring into position for a kill shot, taking out a pesky destroyer and then losing all that effort.

If you ever get the chance to get an AMD 7970 card, don't!  Mine's given me nothing but trouble since I got it.  Shogun 2 hard locks the PC.  If I have an HDMI cable plugged into the card, Sniper Elite hard locks the PC.

Adobe Flash 11.3 screws up certain webpages and makes it impossible to shut the PC down.

Now I'm getting issues with SHIV as well.

Dude that is rough.  I hope you can get some of that fixed.  I've actually been having problems with Adobe Flash  11.3 as well.

So have I.

Adobe has been increasingly releasing sh*t updates.  Before, they were mostly F'ing up Acrobat reader, because I was regularly getting buggy behavior from it for a long time and after they didn't fix one of them for a long time, I sad F-it and found a freebie that works with far less bugs.

I can only assume that Adobe is now performing just as poorly with Flash player.   ::)

I decided to take a break from wargaming and try a different type of "battle"....hockey:)  Love this game by ActionPC, to me the best hockey text sim out there.  I decided to have my Penguins take revenge on the Flyers!  A couple of nice fights included.
