I don't know why I thought he was already dead? A great comedy star and not bad a dramatic actor either-- his brief stint on "Wiseguy" way back was very credible. A sad day indeed.

I have memories from the 70s of being at my friend's house on labor day, us feeling blue because summer was over and school was going to start, but watching the telethon and Jerry getting loopy towards the end when the fatigue and sleep deprivation would start to get to him.
