Hit on BARHAM @ Jutland - Probably the most dramatic deck hit on a survving British ship at Jutland.
Estimated 12in German projectile falling at an estimated 30-35deg.
Pierced upper deck (50 lb plate) outside the superstructure, near the side of the ship.
Burst 15 ft from impact, just above the main deck (14 lb plate) with significant incendiary effect.
Fragments holed middle deck (40 lb plate), with some fragments continuing on through the lower deck (14 lb plate), ultimately reaching the lower conning tower (large fragment of projectile nose) and the 6-inch magazine and hydraulic engine room.
6-inch ammunition hoists perforated, with flash passing UP the hoists starting an ammunition fire in the S.2 secondary casemate and putting the gun crew out of action.
Other crew members below decks, including those in the oil generator room were also injured by fire.
