The big winner of the Final 8 was Peter Gabriel.  I rather think it was because noone wanted Bad more than they wanted Big Time.  But, whatevs.  GNR continues to cruise through, as befits a Number 1 seed.  Tawny Kitaen and the boys in Whitesnake lost to the prettier girls in Motley Crue.  And Def Leppard were wrecked by Bono and The Edge.  That sets things up for our 1987 Final 4.  Have at!

I'm not that hot on Girls, Girls, Girls (never was, though I liked that album of theirs), but its matchups for me made it the choice. Not so much now. :)

I thought Wild Side was a better single from that album, but the Girls, Girls, Girls video is pretty nice

After the first 3 tracks of that album, the rest of it nose-dives pretty quickly.  It wasn't their strongest effort

I wasn't intending to cast aspersion on your musical fandom, and re-reading what I wrote I see how it comes across that way.  Sorry.

I was a huge Crue fan - saw them in Heidelberg on the Theater of Pain tour (where were you when the Challenger exploded?  I was on my way to a Motley Crue concert).  I loved Shout / Feelgood, really liked Theater, was bummed that Girls wasn't stronger, and wasn't a huge fan of Too Fast, but understood how it kickstarted the band.  The overall end-to-end work was pretty damn good, but there were definitely some pot-holes along the way.

I remember back then my friends and I made fun of that song a lot. Theater Of Pain is a great album. My son and I saw Crue when they opened for KISS about four years ago - I can still laugh thinking of my son's face while Crue was cursing up a storm on stage. ;D

Saw Kiss.  Never saw Crue.  With just a few exceptions, I thought most of their stuff was L.A. poseur cheese.

That describes a LOT of 80s metal in the late 1980s/very early 1990s.

I'm really not a fan of that tune of guns and roses, welcome to the jungle. It does nothing for me, it's just a 'meh' take it or leave it tune for me.

I'm actually hoping U2's song wins this :) fingers crossed for the Dubs!!!!!!  :-"

It does indeed and I certainly acknowledge that.  Including some of the stuff I adore.  Being a metalhead as a teen, there were a lot of lines drawn among me and my friends about what was good and what was cheese.  All petty distinctions and reasons to hate on someone else for what they like.  Old habits die hard ;)

I do like a good few guns n roses songs :) just that's not a particular favourite! I never knew the background of the tune though, that's cool to know it's a kickback against the system :) I do get how certain songs, when linked to happy memories and nostalgia can become important in your life, it's the same for me :) And it sounds like that song is important for you in that way.... Which is awesome  O0 I certainly meant no offense, and I was only explaining why I wasn't voting for that particular song :)  I'm glad you like it MD  O0 And I think it's cool how music can be so personal..... Which means we won't always all like the same thing..... But that in no way means I'm putting anybody else's choice down, I think the differences between people's taste is interesting, not something to be used to cause divisions, or cast aspersions ... Which is a big problem in life sometimes I think, not enough understanding of others points of view!

No offense taken or intended, Em.  Music, while universal, is personal to everyone.  We like what we like because of whatever reason we like it.  And noone can gainsay it.  However, most folks are coming at these Brackets from one direction and I am coming from another.  You vote for a song because you like it or dislike the song it is matched up against more.  I present these songs based more on their historical significance and popularity at the time of their release. 

For example, the 1977 Bracket had Hotel California as the Number 1 seed.  That is a massive hit and one of the true examples of an iconic song.  There should have been no way that song lost, except to maybe We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions, another exemplar of iconic.  But, because both songs are what they are and have been played so much throughout the years, there is a fatigue and hatred for them and both songs were voted out well before they should have been. 

Throughout these Brackets, I have had to come to terms with that's how it's going to be.  So I let go of what seem to be some truly crazy results and the loss of some truly iconic songs and just go with the flow.  So never do anything but vote for what you like.  Ultimately, that's what I want to see.  What wins because it's what we like.  O0

Thanks MD  O0   totally agree with what you say :) FWIW, hotel california is one of my favourite eagles song's  :) I never get tired of hearing it. Same with 'take it to the limit,' 'peaceful easy feeling', desparado :)  if a song becomes one of my favourites, it doesn't matter how much time passes, I'll always love that song. I never get bored of those songs I've just mentioned, they are always classics for me.

But yeah, it's tough to see what we perceive as a winner get tossed aside,  just because that song has been overexposed!

But, hey... I will still keep voting for what I perceive is the best song  ;)  it's still a fun process, even if my first choice doesn't make it through  :bd:

Two of my all-time-favorite-best-songs-ever have already gotten voted out.  The first time it happened I was offended to be participating in a poll with such unsophisticated ruffians.  The second time it happened, I realized that maybe my taste wasn't the pinnacle of perfection after all.

A realization I had to come to as well.  Still puzzles me when it happens.  Just doesn't wound my soul like it used to ;)

Every time you hipsters post music in the Jukebox thread (or elsewhere), 7 out of 10 times I've never heard of it, so I think a lot like this more and more. :(
