Yup.  I get it.  Not your usual lineup to choose from.  A lot of pop/dance music.  It's a product of what was out and what I liked.  It's almost definite that I have completely ignored whole (sub)genres through ignorance or not liking the representative songs I was familiar with.  My loss I guess.  But your gain, because all the songs I present to you are pretty catchy/famous/awesome and you should embrace your pop side every once in awhile.  How else are you going to make a soundtrack to dance in the rain to?  The bottom of the Bracket does have some real instruments played in them, and I hope you like those choices, too.  In any event, this is 1997.  Thank you all for voting along with me.  I very much appreciate it. :)  :bd:

I have no problem whatsoever embracing my pop side :) there are a few songs in that list I've never heard of before! Maybe they never got played in the UK.... Or they passed me by!

There are some cool songs in that list though, good choices MD  :coolsmiley: I really thought the song, crash into me, sounded beautiful :)

Nope.... Never heard of that band, lol, it's probably that I've been living under a musical rock.  ;D And instead of going to bed like any sensible person would, Who has to be up at 4am to catch a flight......I'm now gonna have to go listen to some more of that guys music!!!!!!!  :D

The Groo Grux King album is good as is Under The Table And Dreaming.

There's one song that's clearly head and shoulders above all the rest.  It should be no contest.  We should just stop right now, cut to the chase, and appoint the obvious winner in this bracket.

Used to be. I mean, I'll listen to it if it's on, but I don't go seeking his music out anymore. Groo Grux King I think came out about 8-10 years ago; I've no idea if he's done more. It's still pretty good music though.

Dave Matthews was sort of local (Charlottesville VA).  People either seem to get him, or not.  I was in the latter category.  But I won't deny his popularity - he was a big deal in the late 1990s.

In 1997, my daughters were 8 and 11 years old, so I heard plenty of Spice Girls, and even saw the movie with them.  They were sort of charming and funny in their own way.  But I won't listen to that song because if I do it will be stuck in my head the next time I go for a run.  Must - play - some - Zeppelin.

Awesome, local boy done good  O0 I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be in the category that gets him :) I just like his laid back, almost lazy understated style, that he seems to have going on in that song. It sounds cool to me  8)  but if that's not your type of vibe, fair enough :) or maybe it is,  and you just don't hear it on that song!

Dave Mathews is one of my very favorite performers!  You are in for a treat, Em!  It'll be fun to post up some of my favorites in the Jukebox thread for you.

Dave came out of the same Southern college town circuit as Ryan Adams, Old Crow Medicine Show, Superchunk, Drivin' & Cryin', Black Crowes, Hootie & The Blowfish, R.E.M, and Gran Torino, but then again, Mountain Express, Capsize 7, the Olskies, Dead Cut Tree, Sex Love & Money, Annabel Lee, and I Nine all played the same circuit and no one knows who any of them are.  Chris Daughtry was playing that same circuit before he hit it big on American Idol and skipped some of the club days.

I can still rattle off the list of towns & clubs those guys all played on that loop, because I know a lot of people that were on the road out there.

Yeah, I thought Dave Matthews was international too.  On the other hand, I have never listened to a Will Smith song and hope to never again.  I listen to rap about as often as I hear my brother say something political I agree with.

Well that explains why I've never heard of him before  ;)  maybe I'm not such a music dunce after all!!!!! You posted some really cool background info as well on him and other bands, I enjoyed reading that  :bd: I see just one of his songs, the space between, made it to 35 in the charts in the UK. I'll be interested to listen to that.... See what I've been missing out on all these years!!!!
