Apparently there is this site, kind of like Kickstarter, called Omaze where you can donate to 'causes' and have a chance to win once in a lifetime/dream prizes or experiences.
QuoteWhat you'll do: sit down with the man who used to run the US Central Command, have a couple beers, play some Risk, lose in about 3 moves (or whatever you do in Risk, we've never played), and listen to the most incredible stories you'll ever hear.
What You'll Learn: the art of strategy, what it takes to be a leader in the 21st Century, and why General Zinni is the coolest guy you'll ever meet.
What else: Life-changing lessons will take place on August 26 in Washington, DC. Airfare and hotel are included. See details for more info.

I haven't really dug around on the website too much but it seems legit. Not sure how much of the money 'donated' for a prize drawing gets to the causes though.
That would result in some pretty awesome bragging rights if you beat the General.
If this is for real, it's pretty frickin' sweet!
No disrespect to the General, but I'd prefer to hear some stories and take some lessons from a Sergeant Major.

I'd also toss in that playing games is not exactly like moving armies around a map. There are certainly some crossover skills, but beating him at Risk, unless he's a lifelong player, is maybe not going to be the big accomplishment some might expect.
I'd love to chat with him, but I enjoy chatting with combat vets of all ranks, and I think JH might have a good point - the guys on the ground probably have a very clear picture of what works and what doesn't. What would be more interesting is to get the sergeant and the general in a room together for a discussion. *That* would probably produce some insight.

Sorry. I guess I'm just jealous no one wants to get beaten my me in a game or Risk.
A chance to drink beer and play Risk is good with almost anyone across the table.
Personally though, I'd do the Scotch tasting with Timothy Olyphant from Justified.

Risk is always fun and it's awesome to mock whoever possesses a weak Ukraine.

Damn Mirth, I am always 'trying' to be funny... except when I talk AGW - nothing funny about that .... except the stupid deniers - can mock them

Well, you motivated me to look for sad panda smilies. Unfortunately they're so sad that they really don't do a good job of revealing the underlying apathy I would be harboring. So I guess you just get this instead: (https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1081.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj349%2Flongblade%2FSmilies%2Fmst3k.gif&hash=0410c15fa20b10e10ed8ffdac54830de7c71f6df)

OMG that is funny! Now I have to watch old Saturday Night Live reruns because I seem to have missed this skit.
Oh, and my dream would be to play Axis and Allies with Norman Schwarzkopf. How sweet would that be?
Stormin' Norman would definitely kick all of our asses.

I take this means that the upcoming Grogheads Merchandise will NOT include a "I beat Longblade at Risk and all I got was this stupid t-shirt!" t-shirt?
Well, don't get caught up in the "How Great, Stormin Norman was".
He made at least one serious mistake.
If you recall the famous press conference, explaining the strategy and moves of the Coalition forces. While discussing the left hook by V Corps, he referred to it as similar to the football play called a "Hail Mary."
Now that was invented by Rodger Dodger Staubach, while talking about a last second pass into the endzone which won the game. (And got him in hot water with Tom Landry, who didn't like the play, but that's another story.)
It is in football a last play, tried in desperation because you're not going to win, if it fails.
Any football fanatic looking at the move by V Corps would recognize it is not a receiver going at full speed on single coverage. It was a tight, coordinated smash by all the divisions and the cavalry regiment of the Corps.
Rather than a Hail Mary play, it is Vince Lombardi's Packers Sweep.
Two pulling guards leading the fullback and halfback in a prepared maneuver.
Like Rommel's sweep to the right through the desert, the opponenets had a hard time stopping it. They knew the Packers would sweep, they did it about 40% of their plays, but they did it so well, they couldn't stop it.
Same with VCorps.
Norman mixed his metaphors. Shame, Shame.
^Good point.
Mixing his metaphors might degrade the awesomeness of his mocking my weak position in Ukraine.
I'm out.
Ukraine is always weak in Risk. And I can forgive Stormin' Norman his mixed metaphors because he still helped get the Iraqis back across the Kuwaiti border.
