Title: Greatest Films According To Grogs: The 1971 Sweet 16
Post by: BanzaiCat on April 22, 2018, 12:33:21 PM
This is the first movie poll I've done without arbitrary ranking; of these 1971 movies I selected, I ranked them one thorough sixteen based on their box office returns. The only discrepancy I have from this is the final film - number 16, And Now For Something Completely Different - there is no box office return listing for it, so I put it at the end of the list.

I think this resulted in some interesting match-ups, as well as makes the list more or less water tight (e.g. no more "uhhh how do you rank X over Y, that makes no sense" or "please let me out of the basement, I won't tell the cops." Whatever. Y'all will say anything. :P

In any case, here's your 1971 Sweet Sixteen of Film!

BRACKET ONE: 1 vs. 16

1. Fiddler On The Roof ($83.3M)

16. And Now For Something Completely Different (Unknown Box Office Totals)

BRACKET TWO: 8 vs. 9

8. A Clockwork Orange ($26.5M)

9. The Andromeda Strain ($12.4M)

BRACKET THREE: 5 vs. 12

5. Billy Jack ($32.5M)

12. Le Mans ($5.5M)*

*Note, this is not an official trailer, but it's one of the better ones made independently for YouTube.

BRACKET FOUR: 4 vs. 13

4. Dirty Harry ($35.9M)

13. The Omega Man ($4.0M)

BRACKET FIVE: 6 vs. 11

6. Carnal Knowledge ($28.6M)

11. Play Misty For Me ($10.6M)

BRACKET SIX: 3 vs. 14

3. Diamonds Are Forever ($43.8M)

14. Plaza Suite ($4.1M)

BRACKET SEVEN: 7 vs. 10

7. The Last Picture Show ($29.1M)

10. Escape From The Planet Of The Apes ($12.3M)

BRACKET EIGHT: 2 vs. 15

2. The French Connection ($51.7M)

15. THX 1138 ($2.4M)
