Title: It Never FRIDAYs In Southern California
Post by: Moreb on April 26, 2019, 12:52:17 AM
OK. So the title is a bit of a stretch but how else am I to get Mr. Hammond in a FRIDAY thread?

Just worked 18 hours straight so I am off today to catch up on some sleep and then the game of my choice which is still undecided. Maybe some Mius front, maybe fire up WitP since Toonces started talking about Uncommon Valor again. Either way, off today.

Tomorrow night taking the daughter to see Miss Saigon at the beautiful Fox Theater in St. Louis. She has always wanted to go see a musical and I figured I could stomach this one. We shall see.

Saw Roger Waters here in '85. Best. Show. Ever. Had first row then.

Weekend again?  I've lost all track of time this month.

Anyhoo, I've tons of things to do around the house - both inside and out - so gaming time may suffer accordingly.

Having said that, I've got all the ARMA goodies re-loaded and I'm still waffling on what DCS goods to get (but something will be gotten fer dang sure) so time for some serious mil-sim fun!

It should be noted that while Aggressors doesn't have multiplayer (yet), Imperator works hard to remind you that the engine does feature multiplayer!

Imperator, Stellaris, DCS and Star Citizen.

I thought about getting something in DCS since it seems to be having a monster Steam Sale, but...I'm really a sort of trapped-in-WWII kind of person so I got the U-2VS in Battle of X(Kuban for me these days) so this week-end-- World of Warships, Battle of X and some boardgames.

Will most likely play Stellaris (hoping it's not going to crash again...it's been crashing every day at least once during the last week) and probably some Europe Universalis: Rome.

On sunday, i'll be leaving for a business trip and i think i'll start to play For the Glory (Europa Univeralis II) as Bosnia (because that's where i am going to) on my travel computer. Tempted to insall Europa Universalis: Rome on it as well...

Thanks to the advice from planetbrain on the DXWND utility I have managed to get Search and Rescue 4 and Vietnam Medi-Vac to run on my rig. These are great helicopter sims and deserve to be on Steam or GOG. The graphics are really not bad for older sims. Vietnam Medi-Vac really gives you an interesting perspective on that conflict. Gotta luv the Huey......

There will be plenty more Minecraft this evening.  One of our group, Richard, stands accused of murdering our pet zombie (Frank), so we have built a jail, courthouse and execution chamber for his trial and inevitable guilty verdict (I'm the judge).  Tonight promises to be fun!

Besides that, I've been poking and prodding at Driftland: The Magic Revival.  Still not sure how I feel about it but I'm still playing, which says something.  I also bought Helium Rain recently and almost instantly regretted it.  I'll play a bit more until just before the two hour refund window closes before I make up my mind, but I wish I'd bought Evochron Legacy instead.

We've talked a bit about Helium Rain around here. On paper, it should be a fairly good game, but I've struggled getting into it...for some reason, it just feels hollow and soulless...

It never rains in California but it snows in Wisconsin.  5 to 7 inches of the heavy stuff.  In late April.  Five days after I drained the gas and oil from the snow blower and put away for the summer.

However, this enforced time indoors will give me a chance to work on some playtesting and continue my cross-country flight in the Steerman (formerly a Piper Cub).  Plus a FtF game of GMT's "A Distant Plain" on Sunday.  Of course, this is all after I refill the snow blower with gas and oil >:(

I couldn't have said it better.  It utterly failed to grab me.  I will give it a bit more time before asking for a refund but I'm not hopeful.

I just picked up Days Gone this morning and I'm going to dig into this weekend. The reviewers have been lukewarm about the game, but from some of the game play videos I've watched, people are really enjoying it.

Have a safe and fantastic weekend grogs!

Gotta mow for the first time tomorrow. I enjoy it, it's therapeutic.

I wish it were for me. I cut grass at our house, my mother in laws and then at our house in the country. That one is on a lake so the grass grows like crazy even in heavy drought. I don't mow grass. It mows me.

I'd pay somebody to do it but I'm far too cheap.

And have the wife watching out the window as the sweat glistens off of you as you work? I'm not going down that road again.

I cut the grass for the first time this year on Tuesday.  I really thought I had this winter behind me.   :(  Sometimes, I feel like Tevya in this scene from "Fiddler on the Roof"

I haven't stopped cutting the grass this winter, about every 3 weeks or so. I'll be playing whatever I can play around my wife cleaning house tomorrow. So probably very little unless there's something I can manage with an, 'Endust High'.  ;)

Well Slash, honesty is the best policy so I suggest feigning an illness or injury and mention what a wench somebody at work's wife is. 'But not you baby. You're one of a kind....'
If that fails, guilt is known to work around these parts.

Gus, when she said 'you get my motor running' I didn't realize it was a command.

Hey Moreb, I'm not sure if you've seen Miss Saigon, but if you haven't you're in for a real treat.  It's fantastic, and I'm not typically into plays and musicals and such.  Then end with the helicopter is pretty amazing.

No real gaming plans yet.  I'm living the dream in the land where it doesn't rain...rode bikes down to the beach and surfed with my son this afternoon.  The pool is just about warm enough to swim in...definitely if it gets above 70 and the sun is out.

I might try a bit more of Carriers at War, but...well let's see what tomorrow brings.   :coolsmiley:

I have not seen it. I'm pretty excited because it's been a while since the daughter and I have spent any time alone. We are both busy and with her having 2 children under 2, she could use an evening out. Knowing her, she'll be missing those girls in short order.

Busted my was in the yard today so that I can play most of the day Sunday. Wife will be busy catching on documentation for her job and doing kid visits so it will be a dive into Imperator after the pbem files are all sent back.

I should probably mow the grass but gaming is more fun. Avengers this morning, then came home, cried and took a nap. No I didn't cry but yes I took a nap. As for gaming, after missing out on release day I finally started sinking my teeth into Imperator Rome last night and today. Playing as Rome. I cut the knees off the Samnites right at the start and annexed all their territory. Spent the few years after the war just idling about, trying to get a hang for the UI. Just held elections and a member of the military faction got elected consul. Its only appropriate they push for further expansion, I think northwards. I think I like the new more in depth military options, but like the rest of the game I don't have a firm opinion yet.

Tomorrow, more Imperator and maybe some CMANO, DCS, or P3D, not sure.

Based on my limited experience of a few hours with EvoLeg, I still think you made the superior choice.  :coolsmiley:

Yeah I've played a number of games in the series.  I've always had a soft spot for them.  The flight model is fantastic.
