You may be right. I remember you had to have a special plug in to view ships. Still, a good Star Trek game would be fun.
Whoever controls the ST video game rights should team up with the World of Warplanes guys to do a straight up starship combat game. Call it 'Galaxy of Starships' or something.
I'm bummed out as well, but I'm not surprised. Given that work on the game was suspended a year ago, it was unfortunately easy to see the writing on the wall. Still sad, though.

But it's been 10 years since Interplay and Activision stopped making games..
Would like to see another version of Starfleet Command tactical combat with modern graphics and 3 dimensional combat.. Or a strategy game based on Federation Space or Federation and Empire.
I have to be one of the few who never really enjoyed Star Trek when growing up, couldn't really make it through any of the TV episodes/movies.....I was much more a Star Wars person.

I didn't get into the tv shows and only rarely saw one that wasn't the original series.
But I always enjoyed the rare starship fights, and some of the tabletop games portraying that. The
Starfleet Command game series is still high on my all-time favorites list, and I've owned most of the tabletop starship tac battle games in the past. The main reason I got a lifetime sub to STO was for the starship combat - unfortunately the lousy ground part sucks up too much time IMO. :-\

Gene thought of Star Fleet as an entirely peaceful, humanitarian organization. The equivalent of the UN in space. He'd be entirely opposed to the concept of a Star Trek Starship combat game. Unless it was wrapped up in some sort of morality play.

That's exactly why I stopped playing. I just wanted to fly around the galaxy, shooting stuff, but the horrible ground missions ruined it.

Star Wars will always have a special place in my heart, despite what George "Franchisicide" Lucas later tried to do his accidental masterpiece. The characters, the locales, the themes of good & evil, betrayal & redemption...they're iconic, and I'll treasure them til the end of my days.
However, Star Trek was my first love -- and it remains so. Despite the various ways in which Rick Berman and (more recently) Jar Jar Abrams have tried to sully Rodenberry's vision, I keep coming back to it. The characters, locales, and themes are just as iconic as those in Star Wars, but with the addition that they also give mankind a hopeful vision of the future -- and a goal to aspire to.

Yeah, I've heard of Coon. And you're right, he doesn't get nearly as much credit for Trek as he ought. To a large extent, he was to Rodenberry what Dave Arneson was to Gary Gygax.
