I finally reinstalled and started playing this again after the most recent (and aptly-named) "Potion of Speed" update. It's honestly pretty impressive what CA has accomplished with the optimization improvements; even on my average/low-end machine, it takes only 15-20 seconds to process turns, even on the Mortal Empires map!
I'm not gonna lie; I'm having a blast. :bd: I currently have two (quite different) campaigns going:
In the first one, I'm playing Lord Tyrion of Lothern, one of the High Elf factions, in the Great Vortex campaign. I start off having to defend against -- and drive off -- an invasion of Dark Elves who have dared sullied sacred Ulthuan's soil, and even threaten my capital. At the same time, I'm also trying to wrangle all the other (often-fractious) High Elven factions into working together, with the eventual goal of confederating them into a single, unified kingdom -- a Herculean task if there ever was one! (Can you say "herding cats"?) :idiot2: While all this is going on, I'm also having to deal with various pirate factions threatening my shores, as well as court intrigue involving both my internal court, as well as the numerous other High-Elven Houses. It's gloriously byzantine fun! >:D
I've also started a Mortal Empires campaign as the Bretonnians, with the new FLC Legendary Lord, Repanse de Lyonesse. Given both her background and abilities, she's an obvious Warhammer stand-in for Joan of Arc, with the main difference being that her campaign starts her away from her native Bretonnia, and instead has her campaigning in the deserts of Araby, where she seeks to cleanse the lands of the various Undead (Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings, etc.) that foul that part of the world. There are other nearby Bretonnian chivalric knight orders (doing the same thing as her) she can ally with, so that together they can carve out their own sphere of influence. Playing as "Damoiselle de Guerre", it feels very much like you're on Crusade, which is clearly intentional; it's been an interesting (and fun) experience thus far. :)
I am - about 20 turns into a wood elf campaign, it's going quite well - I've hammered a few brettonnians and dwarves and am heading south to kill the skaven - can only afford one army so it's going slow but looking forward to what happens next
I am about 60 turns into a co-op game with my son (home for the holidays!) who is playing for the first time. This is my first game with the new patch and my first un-modded game in a long, long time. The patch is great. The improvement in turn speed and some other refinements are just super. But, my impression of the base game is the same as several years ago - way too fast and superficial. It still needs some combat mods to get rid of the total arcade-speed thing as well as some fixes for trade and other odds and ends. All in all, the game is great fun.

Solops, may you give recommendation for mods which reduce battle speed and improve trading?
I have this on my wishlist. If I get it, should I also get TW:Warhammer 1?
You can't play the mortal empire campaign without 1 which combines both maps into a huge game
1 also has more factions than 2, so if only one then 1 -- unless you really want to play a faction (or more) from 2.
This is why Steam sales exist. :D
Undercover Geek has broke his cover!
I had a bet that he was the "anonymous" in the White House
Didn't know there was this speed patch. Definately going to take a look again in that case.
Damn. I already had my hands full with Mech Warrior 5, DCS and Star Citizen 3.8...

The battles are probably my main critique with TW's Warhammer franchise. They don't feel quite as tactical as their historical counterparts, especially with the units moving so quickly as you mentioned.
I still enjoy the combat, to be sure, but I do wish it moved at a bit more stately pace.

I have it with some of the DLC but it's been on the back burner for a while. I keep telling Santa I've been really good this year so can I please have Total War WH40K. It's the last game I'll ever need.

On sale now. I can get TW:WH2 and all DLC for $50.46 and TW:WH1 and all DLC for $39.93.
Unless you have a burning desire to play specific DLC factions (like the Wood Elves in WH1 or Tomb Kings in WH2), I would save your money and just purchase the base version of each game. The DLC is nice, but not worth the florins IMO; and the base games already include plenty of content & replayability.
I think they still show up as adversaries without purchasing the DLC anyway, right?
(The original example being the Chaos faction from WH1: they're almost the end-boss of the game by design, but you can only play AS them if you own their DLC.)
Correct. Those factions still show up in the game regardless; purchasing the DLC simply allows you to play as them.

Which I certainly understand. I'm more than neurotic/OCD enough to sympathize with that impulse. :P
Personally, however, I can honestly say that as PC gaming has evolved into the current DLC model, I've discovered I'm not quite as much a completionist as I used to be. I've realized there are features & content in which I simply have no interest, and am perfectly happy not picking up the DLC for them, even when that means my version of the game remains forever "incomplete". From my perspective, I already have everything I want, so have no complaints. :)
Incidentally, ashbery over on the Explorminate forums mentioned a mod that slows down battles for Warhammer II. I'm going to try and check it out when I have time.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1163927656
I was always a fan of slowing it down in the 'real' world games but in the WH world there are forces without ranged troops who just have to sprint to combat and that's their flavour - and those that excel at ranged that if you slowed the advance down there'd be no one left for melee - thinking elves here - I recently watched a let's play of the skaven where the guy had rattling guns and jezzails - the opposition back line never saw the centre ground and that was normal speed
In terms of dlc I'd just get the big race ones - the tomb king one etc, the lady of XXX and lord of XXX ones are just story updates with no real depth
The commander DLCs do bring new units, but I'm not sure if they're only available with those particular commanders or not. Probably so?
Picked up the two base games. Contemplating DLC before the sale ends.

I'd get the Prophet and the Warlock if you have any desire to play the skaven. Being on the receiving end of those ratling guns was enough to get me to buy so I can try them at some point. I finally dove in over the holidays and put in about 40 hours with the Dwarfs.
I'm currently in the early part of a Reikland game.

Thanks for this.
After a few years boycotting buying Warhammer II I finally gave in during the Steam sale and bought it. Loaded Warhammer I back up and started playing the massive campaign in Warhammer II that combines the maps from both games.
Great fun and I'm glad I bought it but my attention is furiously elsewhere atm.
Have been distracted the last couple weeks by Thrones of Britannia and the 1212 AD mod for Attila. Gotta get back into this one, hopefully tonight.
I tried to get the 1212 mod running and it just hangs on the intro screen. Any ideas? I invested a lot of time in downloading seven parts to the damned thing :/
How are you liking Thrones?
Don't click the campaign button at the bottom - you have to choose it from the menu on the left hand side
^Left hand side of the launcher or in-game? 'Cause I can't even get in game.
Ah ok - once the game boots up and you're ready to go
Have you activated it all in mod manager?
And have you got it all?
Think there were 10 parts when I did it just before Christmas
Hmm no I only got 7 parts...one part for scripts, six for graphics overhaul. I just went by what Steam told me to do. I'll have to go over it again this weekend :/
But you're saying it's worth it, eh?
You wanna play medieval 3? This is as close as you'll get

I'll play some tomorrow and take some shots

As
geek mentioned, there are actually 10 parts to the mod; at least there were when I added the mod a couple weeks ago. Not sure if that's (part of?) the reason you're having problems, but it probably wouldn't hurt to make certain you have all 10.
The following are what you should need for the 1212 AD mod:
1.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Scripts
2.) All Settlement Walled - Siege Map Replacer
3.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Base Pack - Campaign Alpha
4.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Models Pack 1.V2
5.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Models Pack 2
6.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Models Pack 3
7.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Models Pack 4
8.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Models Pack 5
9.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Models Pack 6
10.) Medieval Kingdoms 1212 AD Music

How are you liking Thrones?
Well, I *am* liking it, to put it quite simply. I always have, although I think I've been experiencing a greater appreciation for the game more recently. Part of that is due to some mods I'm currently trying out (will give feedback on those later), but even with just the base game, I'm realizing how much I like a lot of the changes Thrones made in comparison to the previous TW titles.
I like that my companies are only at quarter-strength when first recruited; not only does this reflect the "mustering" of your men a bit more realistically, it forces you to plan your campaigns a bit more carefully as well. I like that elite units are fairly rare, and can't be recruited nearly as often as lower-tier (or as I think of them, regular-tier) units. And while it's not perfect, I like that battles in ToB generally focus on the shield-wall (as they should); cavalry and archers takes a backseat to spears, swords, and axes.
I like that factions have their own particular mechanics to make them feel unique (the devs obviously borrowed a page from the Warhammer team's playbook there). I like the building chains for settlements; they're more straightforward (and less confusing!), while still offering you choices (especially in the provincial capitals). And thanks to the Steel & Statecraft update (the game's last major patch), keeping your generals, governors, and other nobles happy & loyal is more interesting now.
Also, I would definitely be remiss if I didn't mention how very, very glad I am that ToB doesn't have agents of any kind. That alone might be my single favorite campaign feature compared to the other games in the franchise (especially the historical titles -- agents in the Warhammer series obviously work a bit differently, and tend to be more fun in my experience).
There's undoubtedly things I'm leaving out about this game, both good and bad (note: the AI can be frustratingly passive at times -- something I'm hoping these mods I'm trying out can help address) -- but what I mentioned above at least covers the highlights of why I enjoy
Thrones of Britannia (and why it might be underrated). It's certainly not going to be for everyone, of course, and it admittedly wasn't released in the greatest condition (shades of
Rome II, anyone? :buck2: ), but the game has actually been patched up to a pretty decent state since then. It's unfortunate (though understandable) it didn't sell well enough for CA/Sega to continue supporting the game longer, as I honestly believe it could've accomplished even more than it has.

In a word, yes. I have to say the team has done some tremendous work with the 1212 AD mod.

Nope. Works just fine with the base game.
The units look great, but it seems that the factions are just about the only things that are well along their way in development. No terrain, no buildings, etc. it's all still stock mostly and much of the mechanics that the new campaign is to feature have not been implemented yet.
Looks extremely promising though.
Thanks Martok. From what you listed above, off the top of my head, I know I am missing #2. Will have to work on this later when I am home. I am sure I will enjoy Thrones of Britannia too - but I always liked agents in TW games. A highlight was sending a merchant off (literally) to Timbuktu to make 1000s of florins off of diamonds or something. Good times!

Yeah, the buildings are still on the mod team's to-do list, as are some of the key mechanics (most notably, mercenaries and The Pope). They also only have the units from the Early and Middle eras done (so if you were hoping to field armies with lots of gunpowder troops, you'll have to wait). But even what they've done so far is pretty amazing.

You're welcome,
Gus! Glad I could help.
For me, agents are just one more thing to micromanage (that I'd prefer not to). However, I realize a lot of folks do like agents (including yourself), and I can totally understand why.
I think it mostly comes down to a (mild) difference in play style. I don't hate agents or anything, they're just generally not my cup of tea.
Got it running, thank you Martok and UCG. I was missing two files :notworthy:
And I can't imagine what this will be like once it's in full release...just this alpha state is impressive. There's a playable Wallachia! They are ranked as very hard to play, though. And not all factions have detailed launch page descriptions yet but the ones that do are very good.
Toonces needs to get this loaded now.

Yeah, the mod is already looking good. I'm eager to see what it'll be like once it's more fully fleshed out.
One of the first things I look for in most TW games is a mod to limit or eliminate agents. I find they are mostly overpowered, too numerous and a pain to manage. Less so in Warhammer than the others, but still overdone.
TW2 dlc: My opinion - I have all of them except the latest. They are all mostly useless, overpriced and unnecessary. Do not buy any of them unless they are deeply discounted. They do add to the game, but the benefit is mostly color, nothing essential.

Huh, I didn't even know that mods limiting/eliminating agents even existed (shows how little I know about the scene, I guess). Might have to see if I can find one for Rome II.
Agents in the Warhammer games are at least somewhat fun, as they tend to be characters in their own right. The fact that they can participate in battles as powerful, one-man "hero" units (thus greatly increasing their utility) helps with this a great deal.

Great minds think alike? :coolsmiley:
Is it just me, or has the game gotten harder since it was released? I'm struggling to get a good start in the Empire campaign. The sessionists are giving me a really hard time and there are vampire, chaos and ork armies roaming across my very small territory at random. There are also events that are forcing me to make decisions that put me in an even worse position, like one that forced me to declare war on a neighboring empire? I mean, literally, I cannot catch a break.
The Castille campaign actually starts with a massive battle against the Almohads with Navarre and Aragon as allies (about 15000 each side) which took place before i promised Gus screenshots, so none were taken, but heres what i know so far, needless to say we kicked ass

They revamped the Empire campaign back in September, and I find it both more difficult and more fun. They increased the number of map regions, and made some of them fort regions with bigger and stronger garrisons. The Empire Secessionists start the campaign owning the fort region, and it can be tough to root them out.
In addition, several regions within the Empire are now owned by enemy non-human factions, so uniting the Empire now involves more than just fighting other elector counts. And there's a new imperial system that changes the mechanics for confederation, etc.
Finally, I have noticed more wandering bad guys than before. I've found it pays to pay attention during the between-turn movements to keep an eye out for roving bands of Beastmen, Skaven, etc. You usually can see them coming a few turns away, and I've sometimes been able to ally with other elector counts around the edges of the Empire and get them to attack the bad guys before they ever get to my home land.
All in all, a much deeper campaign experience, I think.
Full list of changes here (at least as of September - they may have tweaked a few since then): https://www.totalwar.com/blog/total-war-warhammer-ii-patch-notes-the-empire-undivided-update/
Thanks Geek. At this point does the 1212 campaign feel fleshed out or half baked?
It seems ok to me but I've only just scratched the surface

Interesting. Unfortunately I can't give you a good answer, as I've not yet played the Empire in the ME campaign (although you've now made me want to try doing so...gah!).
When CA released the "Empire Undivided" update in September, my understanding was that one of its primary aims was to make the Empire more fun/interesting...which I think would also mean *not* making the faction absurdly difficult to play as. But maybe that's just the crazy in me talking. :P
(Here are the relevant patch notes, by the way...)
[spoiler]
Empire Overhaul (Mortal Empires Campaign)By popular demand, the factions of the Empire race have undergone a grand-scale overhaul for Mortal Empires. This grants them a new and richly-themed level of gameplay variety, in line with more-recently introduced races and factions.
- Territory rework: Empire territory now features 12 new regions. Many provinces have been upgraded from three to four regions, representing in aggregate a significant enlargement and variety in Empire holdings.
- The enemy within: Three new provinces can be found in Empire territory. The Forest of Laurelorn next to Nordland plays host to the Wood Elf faction of the same name, while the Misty Hills north of Middenland and Solland in the south (Balthasar Gelt's new home province) are subject to Greenskin incursions.
- New Fort settlements: Three new regions are the sites of newly-designed Empire fort settlements. These settlements are Helmgart, Fort Soll and Fort Bergres. In battle, forts are deeper than normal cities, offering multiple, increasingly higher fallback positions for defenders, and bringing new challenges and opportunities to siege gameplay.
- Balthasar Gelt: The Supreme Patriarch of the Colleges of Magic gets his own campaign start-position! Leading the Golden Order faction from his base in Pfeildorf, he is in close proximity to the Greenskin-infested region of Solland to the east.
- Tech tree: Empire factions now have access to the comprehensively reworked Empire tech tree. The new tree removes all building locks, offers far greater choice and variety, introduces more diplomacy-enhancing techs, and unique techs which interact with the new Imperial Authority system.
- Imperial Authority: The Empire Offices system is gone. In its place, Empire players can now extend their authority across the empire by engaging in internal politics and quelling agitators in their efforts to confederate or go to war with the Elector Counts leading other major Empire factions.
- Prestige: Prestige can be used to manage the player's Imperial Authority, and is acquired through winning battles and constructing ever-more impressive edifices. High Authority grants enhanced growth, tax rate, and increases the chances of improved Fealty from the Elector Counts. Low Authority incurs the reverse, plus reduced public order and leadership. If your Imperial Authority falls too low, you risk the Elector Counts turning against you en-masse in an Imperial civil war!
- Fealty: Fealty is an overall measure of an Elector Count's loyalty towards the Empire and is influenced by many factors, including (but not limited to) Imperial Authority, your overall tech-level, diplomatic attitude, and the new Political Events. When an Elector Count's Fealty reaches a certain height, they will pledge their unswerving loyalty to the Empire with an offer of confederation. If their Fealty drops low enough however, they may secede from the Empire altogether.
- Summon the Elector Counts!: The new Elector Counts panel displays the characters which occupy Elector Count roles and tracks their Fealty towards the Empire. Should you own an Empire State's capital city, you can assign a character as its Elector Count (for example, you may own Bechafen in Ostermark, and choose to assign Wolfram Hertwig to the position). This will unlock one of the legendary Runefang weapons (The Ostermark Runefang: Troll Cleaver in this case), and grants access to an elite, unique Empire unit variant (Ostermark grants the Knights of the Everlasting Light).
- Political Events: Political Events are a new type of event which can trigger during the course of an Empire campaign. These can directly impact your Prestige, Imperial Authority, your economy, or the Fealty of the Elector Counts – for good or ill! These events can drive meaningful real-world consequences. For example, if a civil war ensues, you'll have to choose sides between the Elector Counts. From time to time you may be called upon by an Elector Count, via a Political Event, to assist them militarily against roaming invaders. Whether you choose to do nothing, offer money to fund mercenary assistance, or choose to fight directly alongside them against their aggressors, there'll be a relevant impact on their Fealty.
- Territory: If you capture a settlement considered to be the rightful property of an Elector Count, you may gift them that settlement as a post-battle option, increasing their Fealty towards you. If you capture one of the Empire province capitals, you may instead install a new Elector Count of your own choosing.
- The Empire reforged: Though usurped long ago, Sylvania and Marienburg are still considered rightful Empire territory. If they are liberated, players may install their own Elector Counts there.
- Flummox the Elector Counts!: Through the new Electoral Machinations panel, players can expend some of their Prestige to influence relations between the Elector Counts, increasing bonds, inciting wars, or ostracizing bad eggs as appropriate. This works in a similar way to the High Elves' Intrigue system.

Fun fact: Aragon's campaign starts with that same battle. (Guess where I pulled those screenshots from?) ^-^
Thanks for the info., guys. No wonder it feels so different!
I take it then, that if I start up an Empire campaign, I shouldn't feel shame in choosing plain ol' Normal difficulty?
I had to finally lower the difficulty to 'Easy' from 'Normal' in my current mortal empires game I'm playing as the Orks. This game is really hard but I suspect that's because I haven't learned all the nuances yet.
I realized that I needed to drop the difficulty level when the wife told me to cool it when she heard me scream this is "farging horsie poopie" after the damn dwarfs decimated my mighty Ork empire for the third time.
8)
I've been farged a few times by the Dwarves myself. And, as the Dwarves, by the Orks. Lots of horsie poopie to go around in this one.
The dwarves were a pain even before the last patch. I started a new game as vampires and they are double horse poopy PAIN.
Is it "poopie" or "poopy"?
When it comes to Dwarves, either is appropriate.
>:(
Present company excluded of course.
I always love me some Dwarves, including & especially Gus. ^-^
That includes the Dawi in the TW:Warhammer games (both of them) as well. They *are* rather OP, though: They're almost certainly the easiest race to play as in WH1, and I've seen countless complaints about the Dwarves wiping the floor with everyone in the Mortal Empires campaign. Much as I hate saying it, they probably need to be nerfed.
I have found Warhammer in the TW games pretty overwhelming, being a casual fan. I have finished a few games of Warhammer: TW (and lost). The closest I have come to winning is playing as the Norsca, and that was also my most interesting campaign. Got my ass kicked as the Tomb Kings and the Vampire Counts too. I attempted a Mortal Empires campaign as The Empire but it was truly massive and I didn't stay interested. Maybe the dwarves are the faction I really need to play as. Oh the irony.

Gus, you better be at your best if you play the dwarves. You may still come up "short".
As per the 'love a game but can't play it' thread - there's guides everywhere on who and how to play - my first mortal empires game was wood elves - universally described as the weakest race - I kicked ass using a guide on steam, there's also a guy called Vulcan HD who has done a full 40 odd video campaign as them and just rolled right through the dwarves and empire using tactics I wouldn't have thought of - I stopped playing only because skaven will always have a place in my heart and started a new campaign as them

Thanks for the tip.
I know Vulcan HD but I didn't know he did Warhammer videos. I'll have to check that out. I need all the help I can get to beat these dwarves (with all due respect of course to those of you who like the dwarves).
I got further in WH 1 as the Dwarves than any other faction I played. Once out of the mountains, the Orks overwhelmed me. #:-) Lost interest after that and quit.
I come up short no matter what.
Not short. Height Challenged now.
What's the new pc way of saying 'ugly'?
"Pugly".
But pugs are dapper and adorable!
The saying originally was, 'Pug Ugly' but you're right their image has improved lately. Adorable, yes. Dapper, I don't know about.
Well dressed, then. Not quite dapper but no slobs either.
Right. More White-Collar than Blue-Collar but above the Wal-Mart crowd. They prefer Golf to Football but not high-class enough to fit with the Tennis snobs. Wine over beer but domestic's just fine. They still lick their nuts but discreetly when possible.
Hahaha!
I bought all of it week ago, both games and all dlcs except for wood elves and beastmen, cause i really dont care bout them and bin playing mortal empires ever since, non-stop
I just broke down and picked this up so I will be firing up Mortal Empires soon.
Good luck. It's the most massive campaign I have ever tried out in this series. I will try again when I have 1000 hours to kill.

Yeah, the map is gigantic, Guys I think we should open other topic for other total war games to discuss about them, it's fun ;D

Cheeseburgers and beer? <:-)
I would kill for cheeseburgers and beer right now.

It sure is fun. I'm finally achieving success against the dwarves as the orcs in my current campaign set at 'easy' difficulty. Now that I got the hang of it the next game I play will be at normal.
Sweet, Gotrek & Felix just showed up in my Empire campaign! Gonna see what these bad boys can do...
The "King's Shilling" update is available to those willing to beta-test it. I've just downloaded it, and will spool up a new campaign here shortly.
This appears to be a (relatively) more modest patch, largely focusing on bug-squashing and balance improvements. Sounds like there were 4 particularly big problems addressed:
Quote- Vampire Coast factions are able to raise dead at sea again
- Fixed an issue which limited the number of mods a player could have
- Fixed a bug which prevented AI factions from recruiting more than one army
- Fixed an issue where active ability phase-stat effects were included in the unit stat calculation when gaining an experience level in battle, resulting in units having their new base stats set at incorrect values (had a notable impact in multiplayer)
Also, I personally had to laugh/groan at this one:
Quote- Khazrak's missing eyeball returned in the previous patch – it's now gone again. EYE PATCHED
::)

While I originally found it on Reddit, it definitely deserves a re-post. I admit it speaks to me. IN SIGMAR'S NAME!!
^Haha!
In my current campaign playing as the Orks I'm on the pointy end of Karl Franz's spear. Man I thought the Dwarves were tough but by Sigmar!

Heh. None of the Empire LL's have the easiest start IMO (not even Karl or Balthasar), but they're a force to reckoned with once they gain a bit of momentum.
(The Dwarves *are* also/still tough, however. ;) )
I totally screwed the Empire Campaign first time I played it. :'(
Dude, I've probably screwed up my first 10-12 attempts at playing the Empire so far. (You gotta keep up, man!) :P
But you know what? Each time I play, I learn some things, get a little further in, and do a bit better on my campaign than I did the previous time. And when I inevitably stumble and face-plant (sometimes in spectacular fashion), I get up, dust myself off, and start again. It's all part of the process...and great fun. 8)
I'll agree with Martok on dusting yourself off and trying again when it comes to this game. For some reason, for me at least, this game entices you to keep on trying. Could be the subject matter but there you have it. :)
Gah!! I forgot to save enough Prestige so I could avoid the Wissenland crisis (stupid, stupid)! #:-)
Now I have to hope Franz and his men can hold off Eben von Leibwitz's assault(s) on Grunburg while Gotrek & Felix take their army and finish off the Empire Secessionists in the west, then return to help the Emperor launch a counterattack toward Nuln, Wissenland's capital. Things are about to get interesting...
Isn't a Chaos army gruppe supposed to show up about now?
Are you gents playing vanilla or modded? If so which mod(s)?
So there I was: Emperor Karl Franz, beloved of his men, fighting a desperate defense at the city of Grunburg against von Leibwitz's invasion of my lands. There's lots of back & forth, with the outcome of the engagement very much in doubt -- until towards the end, when I finally manage to turn the tide of battle in my favor...and then the goddamn game crashes. >:(
ARGH!!! I spent almost an hour fighting that battle, damn it! Gah!! :buck2:

Heh, not yet. There's plenty of Greenskins and Beastmen around to cause havoc in the meantime, however. :P

I'm playing with the "Proper Combat Mod 2", which makes battles feel a little more tactical and less frenetic. They also tend to take a little longer to play out (though usually not an hour like the above example), which I personally prefer.
Have I mentioned that I hate the effing dwarves?

I dunno. I won't knock it until I try it.
It seems like, no matter who I am, the dwarves mess with me. It's like they Know...
:-"
Is that Gus getting in your head again?
:-"
That's why I play Rome 2. No effing Dwarves. At least not so far anyway.
Man, I never knew dwarfs were this promiscuous.
Halflings, sure...gnomes probably...but dwarfs? No way...
I blame Snow White for getting all this started. All they had to do was say, 'Hi Ho' and she moved right in with them. <:-)

I finally summoned the will to re-fight this battle, and this time had better/happier results: No crashes, and a Pyrrhic victory. <:-) Given the disparity between forces, and the fact that I'm admittedly only an average commander when it comes to Total War games, I was perfectly content with this outcome. (Thank goodness I had a Celestial Wizard to call upon! The importance of employing at least one magic-wielder in your army cannot be overstated.)
Even better was when von Leibwitz sued for peace two turns later, which I magnanimously agreed to. I'm keeping Franz's army stationed in Grunburg, though (near my border with Wissenland); I suspect he might be busy again soon... O:-)
Also: I will never not love the Dwarves. :smitten:
