I'm playing Erik2's WW2 US Pacific Campaign and it has been a lot of fun and quite different from any other campaign I've played in this series.
You start with the Pearl Harbor attack. You have four battleship units at Pearl and a whole bunch of aircraft in three landing fields. You have three carriers out in the ocean. Most of the Jap aircraft are approaching when the scenario starts. You can get your aircraft up - but they are weak on their takeoff turn and you cannot go beyond one hex from the airfield.
I ended up losing two of the battleships and sank 2 Jap carriers. The other two battleships were heavily damaged and every land based fighter except one was shot down. Almost all scout aircraft survived as did my land based bombers.
Then you go to the relief of Wake Island. The Japs have a ton of surface fleets and two carriers. You have whatever carriers survive Pearl, a bunch of cruisers and destroyers, and whatever battleships survived. But you have next to no points. Your objective is sinking the Jap infantry transports and having your carriers survive. This was a 48 turn slugfest. I lost a carrier fighter wing to land based aircraft, lost a sub and some destroyer flotillas, but sank two Jap carriers and several cruisers.
Unfortunately, the Wake Island defense did not hold over and you are next playing an amphibious invasion of Wake (held by the Japs) with the Atlantic fleet plus whatever survived. You still have next to no build points - so you will be using your surviving ships and carrier aircraft wings plus two carriers from the Atlantic and their flight wings. McArthur is holding out in the Philippines and this is the War Plan Orange meeting engagement in the Central Pacific.
This has been an different and very interesting what-if in the Pacific Theater which assumes Japan has some, but not total surprise at Pearl to start off with.

I just never got into this game, didn't like the scale, the graphics are deplorable and it's become nothing but a DLC fest. Games take way too long and honestly, there are just a lot better and more entertaining games out there to occupy your time with.

To each his own. The DLs are complete campaigns averaging 12+ scenarios and are not expensive on release and very inexpensive when on sale.
First post to necro a thread and crap on a game, why bother ::). Your right, to each his own i guess.
I love the game and think the graphics are better than average.

I want to update this.
I've played about 75% of Erick2's campaigns to completion. In addition to having overall excellence, I and two or three others have been providing detailed feedback to Erik.
Erik has updated almost all of the major campaigns (US, Germany) with detailed bug reports from myself and others.
His campaigns are now much better than they were back in January.
If you like Order of Battle WW2 - you should download all of his campaigns - even if you don't plan to play them soon.
