Poll
Question:
Starting Province Suggestions:-
Option 1: A County - Count
votes: 11
Option 2: A Duchy - Duke
votes: 7
Option 3: A Kingdom - King
votes: 1
Ive somehow volunteered myself to do a CKII AAR for the front page. Having spoken, well PM'd, with LB im going to post a poll for you guys to decide which way to go. I have the current Leon AAR, but LB prefers a new one - not a problem at all.
What i need to know is what size starting area you guys want to see - already a King? A Duke, or a lowly Count trying to work his way up thru the ranks. After that, i need you to suggest an area - im not doing a 250 option sized poll for that! So vote, and post a province to start with
Look forward to seeing your choices and starting the new AAR................
Your King of Leon was a brilliant pick for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the catchy title.
I have a couple of thoughts on where to start, but don't let me be an undue influence. I'm just a guy with a vote. In every case I like the idea of starting small and seeing how far you can push your growth.
First thing that springs to mind is to see if you can recreate (more or less) the Hohenzollern dynasty that turned Brandenburg into Prussia and then Germany.
My second thought is to try the same thing in either in the UK, Switzerland, or Scandinavia.
I want to see you work as hard as possible. Start as a count of someone's yard and work your way to Charlemagne-ness.
I voted duke....is there a Duke of Earl. I'm old enough to remember the song....but was there one?
I voted Count - that's where I started and I want to see how someone who knows what they're doing goes about it
Count! And I think you should start in the North.
The game doesn't really get interesting until you are a Duke, I say skip all the early game BS and get to the good stuff.
I voted Duke as well. Burgundy maybe?
I voted count and how about some Scottish action. :)
Or if you have the expansion you could do the Muslim equivalent of count and start some where in Africa.
I voted Count, and would love to see you stir things up in/around Italy. ;D
Iceland.
Duke.
Maybe try to unite Italy.
Duke. Burgundy or Italy
Extreme case, but could you start as a refugee, and work your way up?
Thinking of the Tudors, refugee in Brittany until brought back and given support to finish Richard III.
Duke seems to be the most dynamic start IMO.
You can still achieve a kingdom or maybe even an empire eventually, so there's plenty room to move up. You also have a stable of county vassals to keep happy and they also grow in number and power as you do so it becomes even more imperative to keep them in line.
County is also a fun start, but there is less happening and can often be a long period of waiting for opportunities of further advancement (or getting smashed in the attempts). There is also no vassals that could be a military threat so there's not much serious worry about those until you become a Duke and hand out county titles as needed.
ok, i think ive found a compromise!
Scotland and Iceland have been excellently covered, and still are by Toonces.
Theres the Brandenburgs that LB mentioned - 3 - 4 starting provinces as the Duke with a goal of unifying Germany
theres also the Count of Parma - hes a count but actually has a vassal, hes unmarried and has an unmarried woman for a Liege - the possibilities are endless there! the goal there would be to unify Italy and decide whether to head North, west or south to Africa - he already has a province on Corsica and Sicily has to be a target, i would see this was my fave choice but im open to suggestions
For Besilarius - there is an old AAR for CK I whereby the player as the duke of Northumberland was about to be overcome by the King, he boarded a boat and headed east for pagan lands to build a kingdom from scratch - the landing would have to be against Pagans as you dont need a Cassus Belli to attack them
Count of Parma it is - AAR coming soon!
Good choice! Look forward to your tale.... 8)

You'll find the pagan lands in the east are well beefed up with soldiers at game start. So it's more difficult to go blobbing out on them as quickly as the first CK, especially considering that many of them also form alliances with other small (but well-armed) ones nearby. 8) It's not impossible, no. You just gotta be more careful which ends up slowing down the pagan-beating.
