Title: New Rome 2: Total War images
Post by: Gusington on August 18, 2012, 02:12:54 PM
Four new images of Rome 2 have been released:

Not sure if they are in-game art or actual in-game shots.

Those are some sweet screenshots!  I really hope they do a good job on this game and not make it just look good.

I saw these a few days ago.  I'm pretty sure they're in-game screenies.

They look good.

I'll get it when the Europa Barbarorum team gets around to EB3 in 10 years or so.

If those are in-game screens, it's going to take a monster rig to run the game, I suspect.

Are those really in-game screens? Holy frijoles.

^That's a challenging level.

You have to equip all your infantry units with Nvidia upgrades first.

:-[

I'm hoping that, after all the extra lighting effects they've added to Rome 2, it doesn't crash for half the people out there.  They certainly caused issues adding that junk with Shogun 2 and as we can see in SDR's case, they still haven't fixed it all yet (and I'd be surprised if CA spent the manpower to do it).

I'm looking forward to Rome 2.  I'm a Western Civilization fanboy.

Actually, at this point I would be happy with a BSOD.  At least then I would have a crash log to go through.  CA is doing nothing at this point other than forwarding everything straight to AMD. SEGA support offered helpful suggestions like "try updating your drivers!" "check to see that the monitor is plugged in!".   AMD won't respond at all.

IIRC it's been a sore spot between AMD and SEGA for years. Now you have me silently disapproving.

Yeah but one has to assume AMD paid a bundle to get that stupid AMD Evolution splash screen at the beginning of Shogun.  You'd figure they'd both want to, you know, made sure that the products worked together.  Maybe that's just me.

At this point I think it really may be just you.

Hey SDR,
I don't know the specifics of your issues, but would this graphics card help you at all?  http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6799927&CatId=3669

It's the card I had in my old computer.  I suppose I could sell it, but if will help you maybe I can just send it to you and you can gift me a game sometime or something.  It's doing me know use whatsoever in my dead computer.

I have a power supply to go with it, too, if you need that as well.  Let me know.

Thanks Toonces.  I bought a new PC a few months ago and went high end.  The AMD HD 7970 card I bought for it was supposedly top of the line but I have since discovered that it has some issues like the fact that Shogun 2 will hardlock the PC 100% of the time.  I've got a 6870 card I could pull out of my old machine and throw into the new one if I get frustrated enough.

:(

I tend to buy a generation behind in video cards, generally.   Unless my pre-purchase hardware research is full of much glowing happiness and no oddities.

But my question would be - is Shogun 2 the ONLY game it has problems with?  Hell, S2TW looked worse on mine after one of their updates for the game.  ::)

The lesson to be learned from this thread is to always buy nVIDIA video cards. I haven't had any issues with mine.

From what I have read, there were similar issues with Skyrim but those have since been fixed (not sure if it was a patch from Bethesda or a driver update from AMD).  One poster in the tech support thread at totalwar.com mentioned that Wargame: European Escalation also locks up his PC but his is the only case I've seen.

Here's the big 96 page thread/angry rantfest from the TW support page.

*BEEP*

Wrong!

My last Nvidia card had issues with a couple rather popular games, and they were never fixed.  Their driver quality steadily tanked at the time, too, IMO.   After being a loyal Nvidia customer for years, it pushed me to trying out the dark side.  Glad I did.

In comparison, my AMD card hasn't had any issues since I bought it.. with anything.  It also runs far cooler.  So it's a breath of fresh air.

Obviously that specific model has had some teething issues.  But AFAIK, CA would have to lend some internal support to work out a driver solution in this case.  Are they not doing it?

Not that they've admitted to.  About once a week, one of the CA tech support guys pops into the thread, says they're still "actively looking into it", and that they forward any information from the thread on to AMD.  I fervently hope that "actively looking into it" means more than checking the thread once per week and just forwarding DxDiag files on to AMD but I'm getting the sense that that's exactly what it means and nothing more.
