Title: The Sound of Freedom
Post by: Sir Slash on August 01, 2023, 09:59:53 AM
The Wife and I took this one in recently. I wasn't expecting much but man was I wrong. An extremely well done film about an awful subject, Child Sex Trafficking. Based on actual events and disturbing at times the movie does an excellent job of clearly letting you know what's going on without actually having to view it in person, thank God. The acting was solid, the locations believable and the presentation quite suspenseful at times. It kind of reminded me of the Netflix series, "Narcos" but without the violence and nudity. A great film but clearly disturbing in nature and so not for everyone. My 2 cents.

Nice, thanks for your review.

Apparently Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington, and Mel Gibson have started becoming more vocal lately about exposing this evil in Hollywood.

Part of my work is signing affidavits for our customers stating that our company does not engage in child labor, human trafficking, or human slavery of various kinds.  So I know this stuff is real.

I hear the movie is pretty good.  It's a shame the real-life Tim Ballard is a liar and glory hound who regularly takes credit for things he didn't actually do, like that victim who escaped from her captors only for Ballard to claim they rescued her. Not to mention many anti-trafficking organizations are highly critical of Ballard's methods.

For example, when they "save" kids in other countries, they basically just drop them off at a local police station with no thought whatsoever for aftercare. In some cases these kids are basically just released back into whatever environment trafficked them in the first place, which is extremely unhelpful for actually solving the problem of trafficking.
