Title: Which multiplayer?
Post by: SteveGarcia on September 22, 2023, 07:25:34 AM
Which multiplayer strategy games offer the best balance? I'm in search of a suitable game for my friend and me to enjoy together...

Steve-Welcome to Grogheads. Based on your question, I assume you and your friend are new to strategy games  So to best answer your question we would have to know things such as you and your friends level of gaming experience, what period of history you are both interested in, what type of game subject (economic, miliary, diplomatic, naval, ground combat, air combat, science fiction, fantasy) what level of game (grand-strategic, strategic, operational, tactical, FPS) you are interested in, whether you are interested in Head to Head or turn-based play. Also, there are a lot of board games out there that might be better for introducing people to strategy gaming, so if FtF is a possibility, then we could expand the list.

Especially since a lot of strategy boardgames are on TTS and Vassal and Tabletopia, which allow friends to play them by computer live. (Or asynch sometimes in the case of Vassal, as long as there's a way to save and share logfiles.)

Welcome,
Some of my favorites are Battle Academy 1 & 2, Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector, Strategic Command Series, and the Flashpoint Campaigns games. We play a lot of others but always circle back to these sooner or later. Seems the most balanced games are the games with point buy systems, the others come down to Scenario design. My advice is just don't be afraid to quit a scenario that seems unbalanced, you'll save a lot of time.
