I am sure this will disappoint, but what the heck...hoping someday a good political game like this gets released, but doubt this will be it.

I'm a sucker for these kinds of games and yep I'm invariably disappointed.
I finally broke the fever of buying Geopolitical Simulator <current year>
this year. So I'll keep on eye on this for sure.
Yeah I just read the dev logs and apparantly you can explore other planets and conquer the universe. I'll pass

Dafuq?
Why can no one actually take this premise and make it work?
The fact they included universe stuff wouldn't be the only reason I would not buy the game, especially if somehow integrated well, although odd choice for sure, at least in base game.
With that said, I still suspect the overall game will fall short altogether regardless of that so my expectations are still very low, the cost would have to be fairly cheap for me to try it out...only info on price is they didn't think it would be more than $30. Saw a stream and nothing changed my mind, although the streamer was a bit annoying so had to skip around quite a bit.
Game released for $29.99....too skeptical at the moment to invest in it, will monitor feedback and see how things go. Overall reviews are "positive", although they are from people who tested it and/or people who only played a small amount of time, which I have no idea how anyone can review a game that is supposed to be deep and provide accurate feedback yet.
I think I'm going to give it a shot. I like what I'm seeing. It has some really unique mechanics with markets, arms sales, manufacturing and licensing of equipment and systems. I also like the depth of the OOBs and I've always been intrigued by the concept of exploring, colonizing and fighting over other worlds.
There is a pretty detailed roadmap out there for development with a lot of cool features, if they can pull it off it could be a really great game.
I'm going into this with my eyes wide open. Its very early access and there are reports of a lot of things being glitchy or non-functional. Still, word on the street is that the developer is very involved with the community and transparent. I was surprised to find that the developer is actually US based in Philadelphia, PA.
Can't wait to hear your early impresseions

Oh, Hell. I resisted until I saw this. I am such a wuss.... Purchased
Wow....more to provide feedback:)
I saw the roadmap and such just feeling a bit ambitious for indie developer so skeptical it will reach its goals but wishing the best
Good summary of the state of the game.
I'm going to take the plunge and support this.

ambitious roadmap. If they can put it off, amazing game. But certainly worth supporting.
Everyone continues to tempt me, sounds like a hotfix going in later today to fix a number of things. Reading the forums, the things that are mainly holding me back is saving issues and it appears to run very hot on GPUs, although possibly turning down some of the settings might help. If those two things addressed, might jump in sooner than I expected:)
At this point it's an early access support-the-dev buy-in only. From the roadmap it'll be around June before most of the major features are done, but I assume before then it'll get to be in working order. The current GPU 100% usage bug concerns me.
Having looked at the game in-depth, it has some really quite impressive features. If all the systems get put into place and it works, this could be a game-changer for geopolitical sims.
The patch was released, unless I am missing it, didn't see the high GPU fix mentioned so going to still hold off, but does look like a decent patch.

I started messing around with the game today. My initial impressions are the economic model appears to have a lot of moving parts, and appears to be very deep. I can't comment on how accurate the economic model is, as 1) I'm not particularly knowldgable about macro-economics and 2) I haven't played long enough. I haven't played much with the military/conflict side of it yet. The Diplomatic side appears to be somewhat simple regarding nation-to-nation relationships, but it isn't bad. It does model international organizations, such as NATO, the G7 and the UN, although it is a fairly simplistic modeling. (I'm not saying that is a bad thing: There are a lot of moving parts under the hood of this game design, so some simplicity may be necessary). Domestic politics are modeled, on a moderate level.
One thing that jumped out at me: While virtually all the countries of the world are represented and playable, Taiwan is not. Nor can you interact with Taiwan as a country by sending ambassadors, aid, making treaties, etc. That particular omission is almost inexcusable, especially given that Taiwan is one of the most likely global conflict flashpoints. I'm not saying it is grounds for not buying, but from my perspective it is something to consider when making a buying decision if Taiwan remains unplayable when the game is released.

Undoubtably that choice was made to preserve the mainland China market. Although you'd think Chinese players would like to have it there for their own reasons. Of course if they owned the game and favored Taiwan, they'd probably get sent to a re-education camp.

Are you CV60 in the Steam forum? I'll be following that post. You're not the first person to inquire. I have not seen any developer response to date.

My cover is blown. Yep, I'm CV60 on Steam. I noticed that others had inquired on Steam, with radio silence on the issue from the developers. While I understand their desire to make sales in China, I personally am interested in some factual accuracy in a game that is tagged on Steam as a "simulation." The developers are apparently based in Pennsylvania, so they aren't risking anything more than sales by stating the fact that Taiwan is not currently under control of the PRC. Moreover, that fact is precisely why it is a current global flashpoint. If they are willing to tap dance around that issue, the question I have is what other issues are they going to avoid or soft pedal? I'm not saying don't buy it. But had I known, I wouldn't have purchased it until this issue was resolved.

This sorry excuse for a game is the biggest waste of money I've encountered in my many years of gaming. Piece of junk, early access or no. Now to throw Taiwan under the bus to cravenly court the Chinese market. Not in the least little big surprised.
Avoid this like the plague.
For what its worth, the latest hotfix added Taiwan as a playable nation, so I'm securing from General Quarters and setting the normal underway watch.

I'm not. I'm ticked off at myself for not refunding this....this thing...when I could. Now it's too late. The fact that they have money from me for this...thing...makes my stomach turn.
I fully expect the developer to vanish into thin air before this thing is even remotely playable.
It has made me more skeptical of early access so there's that.

Don't know. Just bought it, but I cannot get away from Shadow Empire to try it out. Never played it before.

Gotcha, looking at the steam forums and reviews, still seems to be in bad shape but hopefully something they can improve upon as conceptually would be a cool game.

The Steam reviews aren't great, but not as bad as your view of the game- what major issues have you found with it?
"The Steam reviews aren't great, but not as bad as your view of the game- what major issues have you found with it?"
Nothing works. I couldn't build anything. The UI is horrible. I don't think it has
an AI. And it has as its opening screen a picture of the criminal trump.
So much to not like in this. Now I'll grant you that I haven't played it since
early days but my opinion then was so negative that I doubt I'll ever
install it again.
^Leave politics out of it, please.

Big news and a new patch for this game:
Back in December 2023, I released this game with so much passion and excitement. But the reality? It was buggy as hell - and many of you were frustrated, disappointed, and rightfully upset.
I saw every comment, every review, every piece of feedback. I didn't just read them - I felt them. And as months passed, after countless patches trying to fix things, I had to face a harsh truth:
The game needed more than just patches. It needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.
At that moment, I had a choice. I could abandon it, start fresh with a new project, and try to move on... or I could own my mistakes, stay true to my word, and do right by the players who believed in this game.
I chose the hard path - the right path. Instead of making a new game and charging again, I rebuilt everything as a free update. No extra cost. No tricks. Just me doing what I should have done from the start.
What's New?
💡 Brand-New UI & UX – A complete overhaul to make navigation smoother, clearer, and more intuitive.
⚙️ Reworked Core Mechanics – Major gameplay changes to improve balance, pacing, and overall experience.
📌 Every Feedback, Every Detail – I went through every single review, comment, and suggestion to fix, tweak, and enhance the game based on what YOU wanted.
This isn't just an update. This is the version the game was meant to be. A fresh start for all of us.
I Need Your Help 🙏
If you enjoy this new version, the best way you can support me is by leaving a review on Steam. I cannot express how much it means - it will literally help save the game.
To everyone who gave this game a second chance
Thank you.
To those who were disappointed before
I hope this version makes it up to you
To those who have been here since day one
You are the reason I kept going
This is where the journey truly begins.
Let's start again - together.
Much love,
Lotous21

Hello Everone,
We're thrilled to announce our Global Timing Schedule - the final update before the full global release on March 1st. For many of you who have followed our journey, you know that our December 2023 launch encountered its share of challenges, from bugs and save game issues to UX flow difficulties. For those new to our community, here's a brief recap: our initial launch faced technical hurdles that prevented many players from enjoying the full potential of our world of warfare and economics.
Over the past year, we've dedicated ourselves to a complete rewrite of the game. While many of you are already aware of this transformation, we want to ensure that every player understands the magnitude of the improvements made. Our goal has been simple - to deliver a faster, more stable, and engaging gaming experience that addresses the issues of our previous release.
What's New?
Enhanced Performance:
Enjoy significantly reduced load times and a more responsive gaming experience. We've optimized every aspect of the game to ensure smoother gameplay.
Stability Improvements
Our rigorous testing and complete overhaul mean fewer crashes and technical glitches, providing you with a more reliable experience.
Revamped UX & Game Design
We've reimagined the user interface and key game elements. This overhaul not only makes the game more intuitive for new players but also deepens the strategic and economic layers for veterans.
Global Timing Schedule
Our global community is at the heart of this game, and we want to make sure that every player, regardless of time zone, can enjoy the release seamlessly. The schedule is designed to account for various regions—from North America to Europe, Asia, and beyond. Please check the detailed timing schedule on our Steam update page to see the exact release window for your region.
This is our final pre-release update. By sharing the schedule today, we're marking the countdown to a new era in our game - a game that has been reborn from its previous incarnation into a more robust, engaging, and polished experience.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Your feedback has been instrumental throughout this journey. Every bug report, suggestion, and word of encouragement has helped us shape a game that truly meets your expectations. We're proud of the progress we've made, and we're excited for you to experience all the improvements firsthand.
We invite both new players and returning veterans to join us on March 1st. Mark your calendars, set your alarms, and get ready to step into a world where strategy, warfare, and economics collide in an entirely reimagined experience.
Thank you for your continued support. We can't wait to see you on the battlefield!
EDIT:
I've received some messages asking if this is the 1.0 release - it's not!
The new version will launch with version 0.88, meaning it's still in development and counted as Early Access

So, you tried the "new" game after the dev rebuilt it with the March 1 release?

I'm curious too. Most seem to be saying the new update dramatically improved the game.

Solops and Jarhead,
The game is $15 dollars right now, I can think of worse things to spend 15 dollars on. While the new update did improve some of the mechanics and the UI, no I don't think it is anywhere close to ready for release. It's one of those games were the general consensus is this could be a great game / game has great potential.
Somewhere I thought I read they were moving to release the final version, maybe I read that wrong somewhere. If the game remains in EA and the updates continue to address the concerns and add in features then I have no issues with it.
The developer seems to have good intentions but the game has a rocky history. Post this major patch you would think you would see tons of videos on youtube, but I can only find 1. That would concern me if this were my game.
The latest patch is a step in the right direction, it's $15 bucks, what the hell do you have to lose other than $15 bucks :)
There have been more patches, including a big one today. I still have not played, but the dev seems to be making a real effort. Would someone who does play please keep us posted on the state of the game? It reminds me of an old play-by-mail game I played as a kid in the 1970s called Nuclear Destruction.
I own it, but uninstalled awhile back due to the incomplete nature of the game. I'm reinstalling now, as the developer is making efforts to finish the game. With that said, I probably won't get a chance to play until after 1 May.
