Things aren't quite so bad. The minutes into the battle and Black Flag Ship 2 (the lead ship) has an engine hit and is going 9 knots instead of 14, but is still in the fight:

Half an hour into the battle -- three ships have steering and engine hits, Joan heads in to ram to cover Thetis, P3 passes the two diabled Black Flag Fleet ships (one of which, p1, has some bad fires):
