Steam Summer Sale 2024
I don't have high expectations for this one...but you never know...
There are so many places selling games now often these sale prices simply don't compete with deals you find elsewhere prior. I'll still shop and look but like you I don't have high expectations.
Agreed. Steam sales are not what they used to be.
^not only all that, but steam is running near constant sales throughout the year. Winter, spring, autumn, every holiday, etc.
Will see if i can complete one or two collections (DLCs).
I agree with all of the above comments. I will look, but will be surprised if I buy.

Guilty. I am a digital hoarder. Although in my defense, some of my "catalog" is shovel-ware. For example, I just picked up a Humble Bundle with two games I really wanted. But the bundle came with five more games that I will probably never even install.
^Don't forget about our game donation thread for all those unwanted or unneeded codes, or if you're just feeling charitable!

I was about to start ranting about how I have 20 games on my wishlist and not a single one is discounted....how the evil capitalist scum are trying to con the poor innocent consumers and start waving my Che Guevara tee shirt around manically.
Then I realised the sale has not started yet.

We demand the right to give them our money!!!!
it's 1:20pm Eastern USA timezone and I can't get on Steam to check out the sales. Are they overwhelmed or is it something on my end?
Ps. all other sites are working just fine for me.
wishlist on steam doesn't load. Too many people with hope around...
Managed to briefly check my wishlist before Steam Store crashed again and very happy to see 5 of my wished for games with between 50 and 75 percent off .....wallet being secreted away from my wife right now (upgrade points into "stealth") :ninja1:

"Buy IL-2 Sturmovik - Dover Bundle
Includes 2 items: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz Edition, IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - Tobruk"
For $18. I think I'll continue my investment in IL-2.
I just hope the IL-2 install doesn't blow up its harddrive like DCS does every time you buy a module...

Remember....that 110 represents the bare minimum of gaming resources needed to keep you off medication ....think of it as a prescription charge if it helps
I feel much better now about my basket of games at around 25 UK pounds !
^You know, I think you and Pete are right...I am on no meds, but my Steam 'to-play' stack is insane. I think it's working :3musketeer:
Finally picked up Elden Ring at 30% off to see what all the fuss is about.
I got:
Hitman: World of Assassination
Airship Kingdoms Adrift
Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator
Attack at Dawn: North Africa
Rise of the White Sun
...and
Slaves of Rome...I've been intrigued since I first saw it and finally caved. Please, don't judge me.
I got WH40K Battlesector in this month's HumbleBundle so I figured I'd throw some money at one of the DLC. Man, they're pricey, even at 30% off! Necrons are 40% off so I bought that one. I think undead Egyptian space robots would appreciate such thrift.
I also grabbed a Japanese language/card battler thingie called Yuke and the book of Yokai.

Nothing yet, but I'm looking at getting Regiments at 30% off. I liked the demo.
After reading about that $19B in unplayed Steam games, I just looked again at my unplayed list of games and released how many I really have just sitting there waiting.

Damn does Airship: Kingdoms Adrift look sassy!

I picked up Deep rock galactic today and played a bit with 3 friends. Kinda fun.
They're on lockdown while the Slaves of Rome purchase is investigated.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster
Solium Infernum (newer version)
Imperator: Rome - Centurion Bundle

JH did you really grab Slaves of Rome?
:privatedancer:
I did...the only reason it interests me is because beside the p0rn, it has a real game in there and the developers seem very active. If it was just smut, I would not have been interested at all. But an actual Roman slave simulator? Seems pretty cool and they have plans to add gladiators too.
When I did a search in the Steam application it would not pop up because of my preferences
I had to find it on the Steam webpage.
Well I did find one title "Disco Elysium - The Final Cut", at 4 dollars and never having played it sure why not, best price I've seen on this game. Think it will be my only purchase.
It is a problem as i do have so many good games i want to play in my library and so many new (or even older) games i want to add to my library. Try to think more than twice before getting something else.
I got myself so far:
- 2 Dlcs for Humankind which i am currentely playing (Wonder Pack and Cultures of Oceania)
- El Dorado: the Golden City builder (new game with some decent reviews). It's been a while since i got a new city-builder and this is a subject that hasn't been covered yet.
- Ancient Wars Sparta Definitive edition. Played the original and liked it. This has been uptdated.
On a side note, i've started watching the mini-series on Alexander the Great on Netflix, anyone's seen it?
^I did, it's ok. There are better. Would like to hear your thoughts on Ancient Wars Sparta!
Also thanks JH for mentioning Airship: Kingdoms Adrift...looks great and added it to my cart.
Okay so (for now) that's it !!
Heroes of Steel by the Trese Bros for an amazing £2.55
Dungeon of Naheulbeuk for £7.49
Warhammer : Rogue Trader for £25.00
"Caves of Qud" and "Soulash 2" almost made the cut despite me refunding both earlier in the year as it it obvious that there are amazing games there and I may just have not been in the right frame of mind when I tried them, along with "Skald" and "Kingdom Dungeon Hero" which is out next week.......A couple of weeks to hold out and the pension pay out due on Monday....

I enjoyed their earlier Space offering so thought I should give it a crack...Cyberknights does have excellent reviews already and I am not sure it isn't still in Early Access...the ongoing support the Trese Bros give their games is second to none.
The Trese Brothers are one of my favorite indy game studios. I have more hours on Star Traders and Templar: Battleforce than I'd care to admit. I've been waiting for Cyber Knights and will be picking it up as soon as it's out of early access.
I went into this sale saying I don't need anything and I'm not going to buy anything. My son just bought me Baldur's Gate 3 for my birthday and I've barely even started it. Well here we are a couple hours later and I've already picked up Grounded and the Liberation DLC for Call to Arms...
Also not to be a bad influence, but these sales are almost too good to pass up if you don't already own them:
Mass Effect Legendary Edition - $5.99?!!
Disco Elysium - The Final Cut - $3.99
Frostpunk - $2.99
FTL - $2.49
XCOM 2 - $2.99
I picked up Workers and Resources, and am considering Infection Free Zone

BG3 kicked my ass first playthrough but I will definitely be going back to it...eventually.

Ultimate General: American Revolution - This is a game I had held of getting in early access because I think their is a chance it will not get released. It's a risk but I wanted to support the developers who are making such an innovative game. That and I love the other titles in the series more than recent total war titles.

Agreed, no idea why someone believes it will not be released, just got into early access and think popular topic enough where highly unlikely it would never come out of first access. Don't recall reading anything in the forums or discord by the developers giving any indication of this. Would love a link to where this possibility was raised.
^Building on that - American Revolution has potential to be Game Labs' most successful release so far.

Quote from: Gusington on June 30, 2024, 12:28:57 PM^Why do you believe there is a chance that American Revolution will not get released?
I don't "believe" it will fail per sae. I just just holding off until now because I thought their was a small "chance" it would not be finished.
Why did I think their was a small chance of it not being finished?
- I think at least some of the team must be
Ukrainian? Which unfortunately means the war could still get in the way.
- Early on at least we got a
website out of the blue and no further info. No announcement trailer or fanfare. No forum until much later.
- We recently got videos from the discord that were on an
unofficial youtube account. To me this was just strange.
-
GamesLabs got taken over and a lot of games slowed development or there was no news on. Recently we got some info on Games labs new single player sailing game which is good and UG:AR finally got a steam page and early access which was also good.
- Recently Nebulous Fleet Command failed to deliver it's strategic campaign.
Strategic campaigns are hard to pull off and even at the late stage Nebulous's campaign seemed to be at they canned it. UG games have always been tactical rather than strategic, so even though I was excited about a total war style real time campaing map, I still had a niggling at the back of my mind that without enough resources and time things may be stagnant or worse fail in the long term. Who knows.
-
The Roadmap for UG:AR seemed to be a quick text list without any definition of what was short and what was long term. After all this time I would have thought this would have been more solid. But each dev team does things differently. I am just used to a bit more presentation and organisation.

"
Roadmap
Short term and Long Term PlansWe are excited to share our plans for Ultimate General: American Revolution! Here's a glimpse of what's coming in the short term and long term:
- Improvements in the report system. We have constant reports about crashes but the existing report system does not have enough info on why it happens. The system will be improved to help us to collect more information about a potential source of the crashes. Also, we order hardware from your reports to reproduce your issues.
- Fixing frequent crashes for some video cards
- Strategic mode in tactical battles.
- Improvements in the behavior of the general on the global map.
- In-game tutorial system to help gamers learn the game's basis.
- British campaign.
- Naval part. This part was frozen, but we will find time to review and improve things there.
- Sounds. They are not final, but we need to find time to improve them when other more critical things are finished.
- Localization. It is a huge task and we will start it as soon as possible.
- AI improvements in tactical battles and global map
- Many other things from your feedback and our discussions. For example..more generals slots.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported and purchased Ultimate General: American Revolution. Your enthusiasm and feedback are invaluable to us as we continue to develop and improve the game."
- There were a few other s
mall things like early access games burning me recently. Star Citizen mentality I guess. I love star citizen but am burnt out on early access as I have seen a few failures from ones I have invested in the past. Also there have been a lot of demos and pages for games on steam that will never exist or be taken further, the demos are actually really good. So you never know these days.
Ultimate General is an established franchise and I own all of their games and have enjoyed them. They have a reputable brand and that will likely continue.
I am loving the game since I decided to cave and grab it to support them. Glad I did as it does seem to be revolutionary. Pardon the pun. It seems like exactly what I was after in a total war game!
Okay Jarhead....
Re Cyber Knights
Played for 90 mins this morning and have refunded.
I don't usually buy Early Access games so I don't want to be unfair but it had more than a little "railroaded puzzle solver" about it for my liking.

The more recent "tactical turn-based" games I've played seem to fall into this category. Canned missions pretty much require the player to move the chess pieces in the right order, and use the right special powers at the right time. The player can then unlock the puzzle and advance to the next round.
Canned missions are not bad, and can be fun, but replay value is very limited. I much more prefer a dynamic campaign running in the background.

You may (or may not) be aware that SGS Taiping ....assuming that is the game you are talking about) is getting a full loyalty mechanic added this summer as already implemented in "We the People" .
I read the developer post from Phillipe today so I am going to pick up "We the People"as that mechanic was what I was waiting for, and for both the American War of Independence and the Taiping title it is crucial I would say.
Great discounts on both at 50% as well

I can't answer that, RSS, but I did pick up Hex of Steel for 50% off. I'm hoping to get some good co-op multiplayer in with a buddy at some point. At the least, we can invade Sicily as the US and the British and see who gets there first!

Steam managed to hit my wallet hard this time. But the prices were pretty good.
Man it's been a bloodbath for me. Went into it saying I'm just going to dive into Baldur's Gate 3 and sit this sale out. I lasted 24 hours... And the worst part is a lot of the stuff I bought wasn't even that heavily discounted.

I took the DCS plunge. But to properly fly the F-4, you need some terrain (in my case, the Sinai and Syria packs, as well as Nevada) and to get good, I need the Nevada range and a couple of campaigns to teach me how to fly and fight in DCS. And because I have no willpower, I'm sure that my Summer sale purchases are not done. I need help...

Thinking about timberborn, looks kind of silly and does not appear to have a whole lot of unique building pieces but for some reason it's got very high reviews.

Overall, I feel pretty good about my purchases. Not to derail the thread, I have been particularly impressed with some of the more recent WDS titles and updates; I thought I would never say that.
But like most folks (probably), this means I won't be buying anything that is not on sale in the future.
I went from a sub-total of about 110.00 when the sale first started down to 40.00 spent, with possibly another 20.00 before the sale ends.
I bought Palworld, Halls of Torment, and Saga Frontier for about $40 all in.

Palworld is my guilty pleasure. 50+ hours cultivating a team of those cutesy, Pokemon-like creatures into a fearsome "A Team," capable of taking on the nastiest bosses.
I didn't even know a remake of the original Wizardry was released, and literally 2 hours before the Steam sale ended...had to have it. I am weak :emporerslightning:
I just got an email offering me an "All time high" discount for Wizardry. I assumed it was for the remake that came out 5-6 years ago. I clicked the link and was surprised to learn that this was a brand new remake.
Then I saw the price and cursed their "discount".
I think I spent more on this sale than I ever have on a Steam sale. The only good news is that everything I bought was under $25, and the vast majority were under $10. I even got some at less than $1 each (Portal and Portal2).
If I add in a substantial WDS purchase, boardgame purchases and tank model kits and supplies, I will be surprised if my wife doesn't divorce me...;)
The silver lining there would be that I would have more time to actually play the games I just bought...:)
I thought this was one of the best sales Steam has had in years, but hemmed and hawed and ended up buying...nothing. :embarrassed:
Same here but I do agree it was the best Sale in quite some time.
I think the only two things I bought weren't on sale. (Or not on Steam sale per se, one was a small new release discount.)
I got The Fermi Paradox, Not For Broadcast, Star Dynasties, Strange Horticulture and Humankind. Despite the mixed reviews on STEAM, for me, Humankind is far more fun than Civilization, which I never really got into.
