My kind of article:) Never play multiplayer....
I have always preferred playing with myself!
I have been a single player most of my life
And I am a proud married, single-player. But before I was married, I was Single single-player. I have a hard enough time getting along with my multiple personalities as it is now without dealing with real people. :idiot2:
Depends on the game. Most of my gaming life, I always went SP, but I'll admit sampling a multiplayer game here and there. Nowadays, most of my gaming time is spent on a multiplayer game, World of Warships. Not sure there is anything similar out there, but if WoWS ends up in Davey Jones locker, I'll be looking for something similar.
I only play SP.
My first takeaway is what has largely been expressed above...
"Now"? I've been gaming since the 70's, and have always preferred single player. :thisjustin:
I have only dabbled in MP with others I know and trust - 99.99% SP.
Always & only SP. Developers waste too much of their resources on MP where they could be developing better SP.
I get bored playing useless AI opponents knowing there is no challenge or strategy involved. I enjoy the challenge of a human player but...in contrast MP games are soo much harder and you have to have a thick skin to deal with the constant defeats...You have to find the right opponents though that will not quit on you anytime things get difficult. Now I just see SP as a relaxing way to learn the game before being pummeled to death by human opponents. Dominions 6 MP games are something else!
I tried MP and PvP Halo on my son's XBox but wasn't very good, it was very rare that I'd be the indestructible killing machine that the Master Chief is. One time I came up against a team who I believe were professional, they just shot the team I was on to pieces. Everyone else but bloody-minded me hid, I just saw red and tried everything to get one of them, even driving a Warthog up stairs trying to run them over. It took them just a moment longer to react to that, but they'd seen it all. I leave PvP FPS to my son now.
With wargames, I played the old Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin several times against my old boardgame opponent when he was in Japan. I played in the Flashpoint Campaigns Southern Storm tournament in March-April, that was head ache inducing. What I am really hoping that Jo Bader eventually produces multiplayer for Second Front.
As a single-player gamer almost exclusively, except for the occasional MMO, I both eagerly await and fear the coming AI revolution when it hits the game market. I'd love to play against AIs that don't get ridiculous bonuses or outright cheat.

Yes! Yes! What he said!!
Outside of MMO`s I haven't played a computer game against a human since my Atari 800.
I mostly play and look to buy SP. I esp like scenario building, sandbox, and modding older sims. However, I will say some of my most exciting and adrenaline pumping experiences have been MP. So much of the MP experience depends on the platform and who is playing.

Not surprising. I get the feeling the world is shrinking again as the web gets more dangerous as do strangers on it. Where online gaming used to unite us now it's getting to be an elite sport.
Perhaps it's time to do a sins of a solar empire local lan and get a mail post pen pal. :p

This is a beautiful answer.
Thank you Old Timer. We all have our moments.
While I do like SP experience, my go to has been co-op lately. Most games I've targeted this summer have been single player content that can be co-op'd. This is mainly because my son has matured to the point that we both enjoy the same games so why not play together. We've played hundreds of hours of gates of hell, hearts of iron, and war thunder sim battles mainly cause these have great co-op ability. I get the backlash towards MP. Random people can be super annoying. Not to mention hacking and griefing or overall toxicity that can plague MP. But the ability to play a game with a close RL friend or family member is an amazing experience as well.
When I want a human opponent, I invite people over to my house, and we play board games.
