QuoteTo most medieval Christians, there was very little understanding of Islam. They believed that those that followed Islam were Anti-Christian and were therefore members of a faith led by false prophets.
To be fair, they got that anti-Christian notion from those who followed Islam, starting with Mohammad and his successors overrunning Christian lands and enslaving Christian inhabitants for being Christian and refusing to convert to Islam. ("Under threat of Islamic conversion" etc.) That would tend to count toward Mohammad & Co. being "false prophets" by comparison.
Still, it's true medieval Christians didn't know much about the details and imagined a lot of fancy extras, the Song of Roland being an epic example of something like the modern
300 story.
Anyway, looking forward to your series! Maybe the battles of the Roland Geste among them? (Both historical, such as they were, and fabulous!)
Saddle up your horses and sharpen your swords, its time to hit the battlefield! Today we bring you Crusades: Book I - Medieval warfare in WDS style.
Crusades: Book I focuses on the period from 1096 - 1148 A.D. encompassing the 1st & 2nd Crusades and the period of time in between them. You will command various allied forces in the Crusader cause to include forces of the Byzantine Empire and the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Or you can command Seljuk Turks and various other allied Muslim forces in their quest to repel the invaders.
The fate of Christendom is in your hands. What are your orders?

This title is packed full of content and is a must-have for any medieval period enthusiast. Read more about it in our release post:
Age of Longbow Volume I released (https://wargameds.com/blogs/news/age-of-longbow-volume-i-released)
Centuries before the disciplined lines of the Musket & Pike era, war in the Levant followed a different rhythm - one of sand, stone, and sudden violence. Between the famous Crusades that history remembers - from the call to arms at Clermont to the disaster at Hattin - lay almost a century of relentless border conflict.
This is the world brought to life in Sword & Siege: Crusades, Book I, where the struggle for Outremer unfolds not only in grand campaigns but through the harsh cadence of raids, sieges, and uneasy truces - the true heartbeat of the age between Cross and Crescent.
Explore the history behind the game, from the fall of Edessa to the rise of Saladin, in our latest feature article.

The complete Sword & Siege series has been updated to Version 4.04.1.
This new release brings a mix of quality-of-life improvements, scenario editor enhancements, content updates, and bug fixes across Age of Longbow Volume I, Crusades: Book I, Crusades: Book II, and the demo.
Highlights include the new Shift + L ladder deployment hotkey, Open PBEM Folder access from the File Selection Dialog, and new Objective Hex and Isolation checks in the Scenario Editor. Alongside earlier 4.04.x additions like Column of March, drag-path movement, night shading, and 3D slopes, the series continues to grow in depth and usability.

The longbow was never just a weapon. It was a complete military system, built on training, physical conditioning, law, logistics, and tactics. Our latest essay explores how English archers were made, why they proved so formidable in the Hundred Years' War, and why they were so hard to replace once lost. From the rise of mass archery to Crécy, Agincourt, and the longbow's gradual decline, this is a look at what made the weapon effective, and what it took for a kingdom to sustain it.

Fresh on the heels of the recent updates, we have another round for the Sword & Siege series and the two updated Musket & Pike titles. These fixes should be safe for ongoing games and are available now via the Support Hubs or full installers in your Store Account.

Historical reconstruction is rarely as simple as copying "what happened" from a textbook.
Our latest article uses the Battles of Thannuris and Mindouos on Rome's sixth-century Sasanian frontier as a case study in how historians work when the sources do not line up. Was there one battle, two battles, or a confused memory of overlapping frontier operations?
By comparing primary sources like Procopius, Pseudo-Zachariah, Malalas, archaeology, and modern interpretations, we look at how uncertainty becomes part of the historical process.

The first free expansion pack for Sword & Siege: Crusades, Book II is available now.
This pack adds a new campaign, The Third Crusade: King Richard's Vision, plus 10 standalone scenarios covering Acre, Damietta, Bilbeis, Giza, and Jerusalem. Built around a plausible alternate course for Richard the Lionheart's crusade, the expansion explores what might have happened had the campaign pushed into Egypt before turning back toward the Holy City.
It is free for owners of Crusades, Book II, available as a separate download now, and will be included in the next major update.
As a reminder, our Summer Sale is also underway, with 25% off eligible catalog titles through July 5 — a good opportunity to round out your library.

Another round of updates is now available for the Musket & Pike and Sword & Siege series. This release primarily addresses bugs and other issues introduced during the extensive recent development work, while also adding the new SoLoud sound engine.
Alongside the game updates, we are also introducing our new standalone menu program, providing a central launcher for your WDS games. And there is more: Thirty Years War arrives on Steam this evening, August 14, while Great Northern War is now available to wishlist ahead of its release later this month.
