Title: Apparently Neil Blomkamp is doing a Starship Troopers movie - also helldivers2?
Post by: Destraex on March 29, 2025, 09:56:26 PM
Rumours abound, well apparently their are articles about it, that Starship Troopers is being done based on the orginal book by Neil Blomkamp. Neil Blomkamp did Chappee and District 9. This would be coming from Sony.
Then Sony also apparently are looking at a Helldivers movie adaption?

I am cautiously excited. I liked District 9.

Nice.  I think Verhoeven would have made a very good film of Haldeman's Forever War

I think I have that book somewhere and have read it.... I think. Was so long ago.
That's the one where by the time you reach the planet your being sent to in a warship the war is over?

Similar, the protagonists experience extreme time dilation and after returning to Earth after centuries feel more and more estranged from humanity.  Haldeman wrote it after returning from Viet Nam and was especially proud of the praise he got from Heinlein.  Verhoeven's understandable anti-war stance would have done great justice to Haldeman's work, most especially the French corkscrew which I still have vivid memories of reading decades later. :embarrassed:

I'm very hopeful that Blomkamp can do great justice to Heinlein's masterpiece.  Plus he's Canadian by the way of film school and we all saw what Villeneuve did with Herbert's Dune

Herbert, Heinlein, Haldeman!  Even more alliteration and I even double checked the meaning.

I am a big fan of the Canadian film industry. They turn out amazing stuff.

I was just watching this from Blomkamp and wish he'd turn it into a full length feature film.

I guess there's good money to be made off zoomers who refuse to watch films released prior to 2000, otherwise I just don't see the point of this. Verhoeven's Starship Troopers, but even more goofy and comedic?

In any case, definitely interested in Blomkamp's take on ST.

Was that an MP40 at the 3 minute 2 second mark?  I'd definitely pay money to see that movie in the theater if they make it.
