Title: Early April 2025 Central US Stormaggedon
Post by: JasonPratt on April 02, 2025, 11:09:19 AM
As everyone from Chicago to New Orleans (and somewhat beyond east and west) likely knows by now, a massive atmospheric river will be grinding like a stripper on a massive cold front (...um, the atmo-river, not the stripper...) from now until God knows when Saturday.

My neck of the Convergence is looking at a predicted Level 5 tornado outbreak today (long-track EF3+ monsters), and that threat just kind of fluxes back and forth until Saturday afternoon for us, and fine I'll use the emoji to illustrate the threat fluxing.

 :privatedancer:

Beyond that, minimum 8" rain plus up to another 15" in the area, with all the multi-river flooding that implies (Tennessee and Mississippi rivers fed by watersheds, backing up watersheds, etc); hours upon hours of hail up to gorilla-ball size  :chewie: ; lightning everywhere; dogs and cats living together, MASS HYSTERIA! And everyone east of us gets to eat that, too, through maybe Monday?

Grim humor aside, most people in the danger zone will get through it fine aside from lots of lost sleep. Some will have their lives ruined. A (relative) few won't have lives in this world anymore (or for a while). I suspect a large number of us will be without power for a protracted time from hours to days. Maybe a couple of weeks; it's gonna be a lot like a multi-day hurricane with more focused wind effects.

Anyway. Prayers for strength and honor. God help us to help each other.

Two supercells expected to drop large ropes (but not yet, kind of surprisingly) left and right of where I am in about 1.5 hours. Ready to hit the shelter, will probably go there for caution in about an hour. But things could also fire up quickly before then. Sirens in Dyer going off for practice.

West cloud broke up, no problems. East cloud went another direction, passed Jackson no problems (aside from maybe a slight funnel around Bemis). Dyer safe for the next few hours. So far other areas around WestTN have had small funnels or only for a few minutes.

Nothing yet on us, but eastern ARK has started spawning big wedges ahead of the main 'river'. One also heading into Cape Girardeau.

West TN mostly safe yesterday, including Gibson County (and Dyer). Selmer got whacked. A funnel headed toward Dyer around 9pm last night but dissipated before it got here just leaving a lot of rain and wind. Arkansas and many other places, not so great.

So far today okay, but may kick up again tonight (though apparently not as bad.)

Stay safe Jason and any one else who is in the general area.

Spring 2025 Stormageddon has concluded! -- with less ageddoning than expected!

A number of people did lose their lives, and more lost their homes, and yet it wasn't as bad as the scientists worried it could be (based on the available data).

Results will linger for weeks and months, maybe years, mostly thanks to flooding which is still going on a day later.

Anyway, I don't have any good stories (or bad ones either, for which I'm grateful!) from the 4-ish-day onslaught, so if any Grogs do, share here.
