Well. As a company of heroes fan, a board game version kinda has me tempted.
Might be some good old fashioned fun. I'd have no locals anymore to play this with though.

This is why I've never really gotten into boardgames even though I absolutely LOVE stuff like Blood Bowl. It seems we are a strange breed of person and finding opponents without jumping straight into something big like a tournament is hard. This is why I love boardgames converted to PC though... having the PC keep track of the rules and pick up all the pieces is a nice bonus. I still think it'd be fun to play "the real thing" every now and then. Maybe when my son gets older...
Exactly. Board games are a huge investment of time. A whole day worth of prep and setup and getting people together.
I have just gotten used to being able to play on tap through computers with people. Everybody is too busy although I know some really old folks still that go hire a cabin for a weekend and play d&d the entire weekend. Personally I have never player d&d or would want to. But a wargame might be fun in this format every now and again.
I wouldn't mind doing something like that every now and then if we had enough people interested!
A gaming buddy Kickstarted it and got his copy a few years ago. We played it a handful of times. It was so-so AFAIC. Fairly simple rules and a rather abstracted system of combat with no real sense of scale or range. It's more of an area control game than one depicting tactical combat. The base building portion just seemed odd to me but I also thought it was silly in the videogame version as well.
I'm not sure if it's just our play style or if the game is actually unbalanced, but the Brits are very tough on defence and went undefeated.
