Why did I post this? I look around and realize that during my 1 year absence some veteran faces have disappeared. That made me think, "it doesn't have to be like this".

I agree. Life is too short to hold a grudge.
I have no idea if there were fireworks of some kind. But it would not really bug me if there were. Everybody has the right to be human and lose it every now and again. It's all water under the bridge.
The closer your friends, sometimes the worse the split. But among the best of friends, not much is irreparable.
It was much the same at the old wargamer.com forums.
Additionally as we get older, sometimes we are not as graceful as we would like. Me included.
