Title: New German movie "Der Tiger"
Post by: Redwolf on September 18, 2025, 08:09:16 AM
"Der Tiger" is a new German movie released yesterday about a Tiger tank on an important  mission behind enemy lines on the Eastern front. I didn't say it is a good movie :) But wil probably be entertaining when it releases on streaming services.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31495504/?ref_=fn_all_ttl_1

Will probably be named "The Tiger" for worldwise release.

WHat kind of "special mission" would require a single Tiger tank I wonder?  :Nerd:

I saw the trailer for this a while back. I'd watch it for the tanks but do not expect a good story.

Just watched this movie. Pretty depressing but the tank scenes are not too bad.

Yeah, I just finished it.

It's not a war movie.  It's a movie that takes place during a war.  I was a bit disappointed with the combat scenes.  Gunners all seem to have gone to the stormtrooper school of accurate shooting and the duel between the Tiger and the SU-100 was basically a rehash of Fury.

I didn't hate it, but it wasn't what I was expecting.

Yeah. It was a strange movie. Sometimes the tank looked good and other times it looked like trash. I think it was a mix of CGI and mock ups of T55s.

I thought the Tiger looked fine apart from the snorkelling scenes.  I am not bothered by CGI as its really the only affordable option.

The SU-100 was more problematic.  Those weren't around until '45 and the film was set in '43.  It also looked like it was an SU-152, not an SU-100 based on the short barrel with the muzzle brake.

Still cool to see one rumbling around on screen though.

Spoilers:
Hmm. The su100 I saw looked fine. The 152 has a muzzle break and looks chunky.
Your talking about the tank destroyer that charged them and they waited to enter a ditch before shooting?

Spoilers:
But yes the time problem is an issue. They could have got away with calling it a su-76. But given the nature of the film, time potentially does not matter. The su-100 could have represented a scary
Future monster.

I thought the cgi was fine as well. It eas the t55 mock up that was jarring to me.
In the other tank movie I poster here about kv-1s it's reversed. Mkiv tanks are mock ups and the kv1 and russian kit is real.

They could have just gone with an SU-152 as that was in service in 1943.  No idea why they decided to call it an SU-100 instead.

While I did like it, as it went along, my 'tism perked up and I told the Mrs. that it was "An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge," sort of thing, so I explained what that was and then...

Still, not a bad movie for an evening's enjoyment.
