There's an out of the way art museum in a country town called Tottori that I stumbled upon. I knew about the museum but, as it calls itself an art museum, I never went there before. I had no idea it had such a vast collection of arms and armour from the Sengoku Jidai period of Japanese history. There must've been close to 100 sets of armour and 50-60 swords and another 25-30 various weapons on display.

I also went to a Shinto shrine near Tottori. This one is dedicated to a kami called Ube. I have a small shrine in my home so I wanted to get a new scroll for my shrine. Normally, this is done at New Year's where the old scroll is ritually burned and a new one is blessed. Prior to my trip, I wrote to the priest and shrine maiden in charge of the Ube shrine to see if they'd allow me to conduct the otakiage ritual early. They were happy to oblige. I was expecting a quiet visit but the shrine was booming that day. Great weather though and the shrine maidens were very accommodating and helpful. Very nice visit.
