An announcement trailer for medieval 3 has just dropped with a few pictures and explanations. Including thr potential of the "upgraded" or new engine to now be console compatible.
Most of the detail so far is just around graphics and other meaningless stuff.
I for one an not filled with confidence and will go to manor lords for my medieval fix.
I mean it pays to be cynical and surprised vs excited and disappointed these days right?
Besides, Bannerlord's Rome Total War mod just released a vast update, and I can't believe I'm able to type that sentence seriously but here we are!
Anyway, to be fair they've listened to fans and got massive results before (Warhammer TW) and also listened to fans and got mediocre (or worse) results before (Dark Age/Attila TW, Three Kingdoms TW, probably also Troy TW.) So our wishes aren't necessarily going to translate to success for either side, depending. We can complain that Troy and Pharoah were trash upon release needing lots of fixing and redesign -- I don't recall about Attila, though it has proven a very fruitful base for modding -- but I don't recall anyone saying 3KTW was trash upon release. I wanted that as much as anyone, and I've played it exactly none. :embarrassed:
Atilla was after rome2 and was a graphical "fix" among some really gamey campaign mechanics like walls not being complete. It was better than rome2, but rome2 was utter trash.
Thrones of britannia was derivative but again, instead of battle simulations most of what you get is campaign abstraction.
I cannot see total war's new engine furthering the woefully dated state of total war battles. Other games now have courier systems and better formation keeping than total war has. Heck, when rome2 came out it did not wven have guard mode. That tells you a lot about where battles are in the ca psychie.
43 mins in is the presentation rather than just the trailer.

I just hope that they don't mess up MTW3 by trying to be "innovative" and introduce some stupid gameplay mechanic they think will sell. Sorry if I sound a bit pessimistic or cynical but I haven't been too impressed with the two recent games they put out.
Now if only we could get an ETW2 and done properly my faith in Creative Assembly might just be restored.
Personally I wanted Victoria/acw total war or pike and shot total war.
Med3 is just the same old without some real engine changes to actually simulate something new for the history fans.
