Title: Snowpocalypse 2026
Post by: bobarossa on January 25, 2026, 03:54:09 PM
Surprised no one has started a thread on this yet!  Here in central Ohio we've had about 12" so far.  We had 14" total all last winter.  I've shoveled enough snow out of my driveway to make it to the street but my street is a level 3 street so they plow it after the snow has melted.  Walked dog this morning when there was only 8".  He didn't like it at all.  This afternoon, it was up to his stomach as he hopped out into the backyard to pee.

Went to grocery Friday (along with half of population) and the store was crazy.  Took almost half an hour to go through the checkout line.  The bread section only had Kroger brand left on the shelf (they probably just restocked, it was too neat).

I would estimate about 10" here so far. Around 1600 it started turning to sleet. Its bitterly cold.

No snow in Wisconsin, but the low the last two days was -19 degrees F.  The high was -3.

We ended up with around a foot or so here in Southern Indiana but now the cold to look forward to.  I saw -11 on Wednesday morning when I looked at the forecast a bit ago.

Snow is pretty lame in Philly so far. Temperatures low enough for me to put on winter tires, though.

My area of West TN didn't get hit as hard as expected, so we've got maybe 6" coverage (maybe 4"), plus some ice coating leaves but not a lot. Street in front of my road got dozed by local tractor guy with blade, and it's doing okay -- modern macadam is designed to turn sunlight to heat energy very effectively which estivates the surrounding snow and ice directly off without necessarily melting it. (The downside is that this drastically increases local atmosphere temps during warm and hot months especially in urban areas with lots of pavement, most especially airports where most weather stations are set for various reasons. Not really a problem in my area, of course.)

Nashville on the other hand got slammed with what we thought we were gonna get, i.e. 3/4" freezing rain. Half their population is out of power (though not a corner of my family living there, yet), and might not get it back for a week or more. By which time another snow-ice storm (early next week) will add more. (Looks like it'll miss us, but will his central-to-north Mississippi again. Those people aren't getting power back for weeks plural...)

We're supposed to get between 0 and -8F the next 5 nights.  No meaningful snow though.  Someone plowed a single lane down my street this morning and blocked all the driveways on my side.  While I was walking the dog this afternoon some angel of a neighbor cleared the snow out from in front of my driveway!!!!!

Well you have to tolerate a ton BS living in coastal California, but this is where it pays off.  Epic summer weather in February.

We're supposed to get a blizzard today into tomorrow that is going to make the last storm look like a dusting. They're predicting 24" across Long Island with 3 to 4 foot drifts. Very much one for the record books.

My back is already crying! Going to be a lot of snow blowing and shoveling.... :hair:

I've got 9 inches (23 centimeters) so far and it's still coming down.

Since I'm a winter baby I will declare I love snow!!!!
Don't have to go to work today so I will be gaming.

Below is what I plan on doing in my backyard today:
