Thanks for the feedback! It's a valid question that touches on the core technical challenge of the game.
Handling spherical planets in realtime is already a complex feat, ours even rotate on their axis! It required years of brilliant optimization from Valentin to make it work seamlessly.
Realscale planets would mean vast areas of empty space and hours of travel just to scout one world. We prefer planets that are fun to explore entirely and where interactions (city-building, combat) feel impactful.
Increasing planet size to realistic scales would kill the seamless "Zero Loading Screen" experience. Being able to zoom instantly from a single unit to the entire galaxy requires this specific balance.
That said, we have actually increased planet sizes during development! The Giant planets in the final game might be closer to what you're looking for.
If you want a deeper dive we discussed it in detail on this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2669060/discussions/0/598524246085408923/

Answer from the dev about the planets - been watching this for years - actually thought this post was going to be release news
I've had this on my wishlist forever and a day. Could have sworn this game was being made and published by Hooded Horse Games.
