This game was recently released into early access and offers a surprisingly enjoyable mix of genres. It was in development under a different name for a very long time and had some bizarre NFT and pay to win concepts that were entirely removed. The developers seem to have taken the game in a much more positive direction and what they have come up with has been pretty fun so far.
You play as a commander of some dystopian. facisty regime, charged with building an army and conquering the universe in the name of the State. To do so, the game has a robust base building segment, matched with recruitment and army management, where you have to oversee your soldiers responsibilities, health and moral, research, resources gathering, weapon development and, of course, combat. You're able to launch expeditions across the stars and attack various planets, moons, bases, etc. The combat is pretty faced-paced and hectic, but it hasn't been too hard so far and its pretty satisfying for some reason.
In any event, its pretty mindless fun when it comes to battle, while being pretty strategic and unexpectedly deep in terms of base development and soldier management.
Its worth a look I think.

I'm not so slowly becoming totally obsessed with this one. The gameplay loop is highly addictive.
It mixes so many genres in really interesting ways. Base development, troop management, social sim, FPS combat, etc. Its very unique. The dystopian, fascist backdrop is pretty hilarious too. You can build everything from surveillance, propaganda, gallows, reproduction centers (where you force your troops to make babies), prisons (where you can torture, indoctrinate, exile or refine troops into food!), have victory parades...it foes on and on and I'm pretty middling in the tech tree, as well.
I guess the management and social sim aspects will be something you either like or don't. Managing troops is important because they are more than soldiers. They perform tasks on the base when not in combat. They labor, they research, they need to rest, they need to relax and have recreation, they need to eat, they need to be encouraged and disciplined. They all have names, backgrounds and stats. Conceivably, I could see getting attached to some of them.
I think this one is definitely worth a look. Its becoming the kind of game where I sit down to play something else, and three hours later, I realize I've been playing Pax. :idiot2:

Groan...I was afraid of this. I checked the game out after the first post and have been waiting for feedback. Just what I need, another game.
It looks quite demanding on hardware.
