Title: Empire Total War
Post by: Keunert on September 14, 2012, 04:40:09 AM
i just realized this was available for mac. how good is the game?
i only had Shogun Total War, years ago and never played this series again.

The other option would be Rome Total War....
looks a bit dated by now, but i guess it's basically the same game mechanic wise?

Not sure how well either one runs on a Mac but I never really enjoyed Empire as my much as I should have. For all of its faults I enjoyed Rome Total War a lot more.

I enjoyed Rome Total War alot, in fact it might be my favorite of the series.  I am really excited that they are coming out with the next Rome Total War later next year.

As for Empire, it was ok.  I felt the game tried to cover too much and ended up bogging down the game play.  There was just so much to do and see that I couldn't enjoy the whole thing.  Also the AI wasn't the best.

Shogun II Total War on the other hand was alot of fun and really impressed me.

^Spot on. Shogun 2 is the most ambitious, best executed game in the series IMHO.

I cannot even get Shogun 2 to start up past the title screen.  The support is a big ol' POS.

I actually enjoy ETW more than Shogun though not at first. The updates made the game much more stable and there are some excellent mods that make the game what it should've been from the start. Playing with 3 theatres instead of just 1 makes you think globally and you have to much more develope your economic skills than in other TW games. RTW was great but your right, it's starting to show it's age. Can't speak for the Mac version though.

Bleh.  Empire Total War was a pile of crap, almost as bad as Rome was.

Do not get.

I wish I could say that surprised me, but it doesn't.  Sorry to hear that Bison; I very much sympathize.

Empire + Mods is fine. Great scope with the multi theatres to play in. It's is a good game.
