Well - I picked up DCS BS 2 again the other day and I've decided to try (again) and get back into it - hopefully having more staying power than before.
The problem with the sims is I love the sim aspect - but they are so complicated and deep. I always start by saying I'll be systematic with the learning....learn to fly and hold, learn to hit with cannon...then rockets, then missiles...but I generally fire it up, go for a fly, fight with the controls and die.
I will TRY DESPERATELY to do it systematically this time...there's a fantastic sim there waiting to be used and abused.
Also the new AGEoD game...I actually fired it up a couple of days ago and played for about 3 hours. I didn't have a clue what I was doing or what I had to do and it looks like I'm going to get my arse kicked...but I've decided not to do what I did with all previous AGEoD games - start a game, get lost, lose lots of battles and quite...so I'm playing this one out until I work out what I'm doing - imminent death or not.
I've also got my B-17 to finish off. I can't do a lot during the week because the light is quite bad so in the autumn/winter model making is reserved for the weekends. I'll also be making a start on my P-40.
Civ IV MP, CKII and maybe bust out Civ V that was so generously donated to me by one of our very own.

Bayonet Jr has a tournament this weekend
finally got around to playtesting the civ-building boardgame I've been working on. basic mechanics are sound, but the combat system needed tweaking while we were testing, so I may pound on a few battles in that this weekend to test some more
Had a really great game of AGEOD Civil War last week, gave it another play after watching those Videos.. I can tell you, I have not had as much fun in a game in a loooong time. So of course I picked up AJE this week.. Will be getting some time into that.. Want to play some MP CLoD with a friend, hopefully that comes through. Bummed that X-Com is not released till after the long weekend :(
a CMBN PBEM - massive 12000 point game - my Fireflys are just plinking shots off Panthers armour and then getting toasted by the return fire - need some sneakier tactics i think
a CMBN tournament PBEM, round 1 of 3 - theres only 8 minutes left to play but my opponent has gone on holiday, im left with the turn to ponder who will win, i hold the church, the bridge, 'monument hill', and 2 farms - by far and away the best CBMN game, and possibly the most immersive, dramatic game of anything ive played in a long while - the force selection and map has been awesome
a CMFI PBEM - just about to crush my opponent for the second time in a PBEM - i didnt realise i had done so well until i started sneaking an elite assault squad round the back of his lines - dead Germans everywhere
CKII - some Brandenburg AAR and some more turns of Parma for LB
hopefully some AoW Shadow Magic, still too scared of ProN until i can lock myself in a soundproof box for a few hours - heart wants XCOM, head says no
Perhaps finish Thief III, gird my loins for Dishonored, and getting drunk in Boston.
I've got a Flames of War minis game scheduled today. Looking forward to that.
Tonight I think I'll fire up Guild Wars 2 and see if I can melt the new video card in here. I'm also going to try and get a review copy of War of the Roses and see how the full game looks.
Again I am stuck working most of the weekend. :( However if I do find some time I'll try to get some Wargame: EE in as well as some BF3. Also there is a pile of unpainted minis I need to get to.
Will be playing Decisive Campaigns Case Blue...picked it up earlier in the week with the Matrix 25% off coupon.

While I lust rather badly for some of the new games out there, I am currently holding (mostly) to a resolve to play the giant stack of things I already have.
Last weekend I fired up an old copy of Demon's Souls for the first time. I'm.... probably going to move along to some other game this weekend. Dunno. Will give it another shot. I appreciate what it's trying to do with a gameplay model that rewards thinking about how to best to attack and defend against the enemy. (D'sS is a third-or-first person fantasy action rpg, like Skyrim but tougher and not remotely as deep in many ways but with a curious online presence where you can occasionally see other players, or memories of them, working their way through the levels and leaving messages to help other players--or even briefly joining a game to help or grief you! It recently spawned a reportedly better sequel/remake, Dark Souls.)
However, the game design intentionally lends itself to a high level of repetition in the missions and areas. When I've been there and done that 15 times already, just about exactly the same every time, I naturally feel like it's time to move on.
Unsure of what I'll fire up next. Aside from a ton of PC wargames (some of them stacked next to the computer), I still have a ton of PS3 games, too, to work through. I may split the difference by taking another stab at the R.U.S.E. mission I'm currently stuck on, or trying to get a little further in Bladestorm (a game I ought to utterly love, being a fan of Koei's Kessen series, of which this is basically Kessen 4 set for the first time in Europe--but which I cannot for the life of me manage to stay very interested in.)

AJE PBEM, ROF (floatplane! Barge bombing!), LOMAC (maybe), Third Wire (maybe), paper Harpoon 4.1 (maybe).
CLoD sounds fun. If it is still around when I get a new computer in March, I'll be playing it I hope.
Civ 5, world of tanks, maybe some torchlight II
CMBN- The Road to Monteborg. Still struggling to finish-off this campaign. Five min. left in the current battle and have 1 more vic. location to secure. Problem is, it's 2 bunkers, trenches, 81mm mortar teams and infantry. And I'm all out of arty. It's gonna be real close and this a must win to complete the campaign. Otherwise I'm reading O'Reilly's new book, "Killing Kennedy" when I need a break.
Let me think....Borderands 2. I might finally get around to reading the AJW manual and playing another scenario, but we'll see how much time I have to spend learning the new game.

Thanksgiving long weekend up Canada way! Borderlands 2, mostly...though I'm also suddenly drawn to loading up Civ V for the first time in eons. And we'll probably do a board games night at some point. Cyclades was requested for the next such event, and I'll probably take Runewars and a few little quick hitters (King of Tokyo, Survive! and so on) along as well.

Ok now you're speaking my language. Bladestorm really really rocks. I got along pretty far into the game before my PS3 had a blu ray disc meltdown. As a result of that I inadvertently deleted my hard drive losing my Bladestorm save. Never got back into it as by the time I got the blue ray disk repaired I had a bunch of new games waiting to be played.
You mention Kessen, another game that was awesome. My favorite definitely is Kessen III: Nobunaga's something or other.

I Attached my new Flashlight/Laser to my Springfield XDM 9 tonight. Want to take it out and try it sometime this weekend or later next week when I'm on vacation. As Far as gaming, I started watching Hermans Harpoon for Dummies tutorials and YouTube. Going to be jumping into Harpoon v3.6.3 tomorrow morning. I will also be continuing my new Skyrim character. This time no upgrading mods until I beat the main quest.
Tomorrow will be starting Harpoon and more Skyrim. Other games on deck to play are: MechWarrior Online, AJE, and maybe some Fallout 3 or NV.
Sunday: FOOTBALL!!!!! Going to watch Green Bay pound the colts into dust.
Is MechWarrior Online out? I so wanna be good at that game but have a sneaking suspicion I will suck out loud :-(
I pre-ordered it, Got the Legendary package. Now that the NDA has been lifted I can finally talk about it. They haven't announced an official release for the open beta as far as I know. Will take some screenshots and post them later this weekend. You can't be any worse then me. I suck in any sort of PvP environment. It's still a fun game to play. Would really like to get a Grogheads clan going if there is enough people who are interested,

Holy crap, I just downloaded a Java based program that lets you easily create custom Arkham Horror stuff. I see myself spending way too much time playing with this and creating stupid, stupid things (Richard Simmons as an Ancient Evil One, perhaps?).
I have a buddy over today and we intend to play the 5 scenario linked Cobra campaign from WSR. I playtested this, and it is a really excellent set by ace scenario designer, Matt Lohse.
If we get through that and have time to spare, we'll most likely play a small CoH firefight.

Which so far as I know was a remake of Kessen 1 (which I never played. Because by the time I discovered the Kessen series, Kessen 3 had been released.)
I started with Kessen 2 (not nearly as advanced as the sequels of course, but the only Three Kingdoms entry so far). Which I first played at about the same time as Dynasty Tactics 2.
Well, I haven't gotten back to R.U.S.E. or Bladestorm yet, as I decided to catch up on my older PS3 games, specifically "Heavenly Sword", the God-of-War-esque fantasy action combat game by Ninja Theory, the guys most (in)famous for the "Dead or Alive" fighting game series. And yes, it has at least two attractive girls in it. But no, they're realistically proportioned, more or less. But yes, they traipse around in various stages of undress. Which the game itself lampshades on occasion.
Despite how exploitative it may look at first glance (although the art is good across the board), and the rather generic plot so far, the characterizations and acting are amazingly good, and for an early PS3 game facial expressions and textures have rarely looked better. (The villains, most of whom are played by Andy Serkis who also directed the motion-capture acting generally, are routinely a hoot.) The fighting-game combos and tactical choices moment-to-moment are significantly deeper than usual for a GoWish beat-em-up, too, as might be expected.

I've just played around with it a bit, but I'm actually really impressed. Dirt simple to use. All of the templates for everything (Investigators, Ancient Ones, Monsters, Items, Spells, Allies, Skills, Mythos Cards, Encounter Cards, Heralds, Guardians, Board Locations, Gate Tokens, Tracks, Investigator Stories, Injury/Madness Cards, etc., etc.) are in there. So you just add your stats and text and pictures and it puts them on to the template for whatever you're making.
Printing is a complete disaster, at least for me, but you can export the files as an image and set your quality however you want and print them from a picture viewing program.
I'm considering doing up Investigator cards for a few friends and I so that we can play as stylized versions of ourselves the next time, perhaps with a few custom items as well. ;D
I hope to continue my war patrol in U-72 Sunday afternoon. Someone has to keep DOS gaming alive. One day, in another 30 years, I expect to be interviewed by the Smithsonian.
Played a few games of Confict of Heroes tonight. This is the first real wargame I've played in a good month or so. Honestly I'd forgotten just how fun the game is to play. It's got the right amount of units and depth to play several scenarios in an evening and not be bogged down clicking and moving units causing my brain to hemorrhage.
I've actually been thinking of picking that up for just that reason (CoH).
I've also been thinking of picking up Field of Glory. I have a hankering for something turn based, and not too complex and with a reasonable unit density.
If you are playing solo get CoH, FoG has the worst AI imaginable. The CoH AI is actually pretty challenging and makes for a fun game.

Well the combat results can be confusing it's true, but I guess based on what I've read they are consistant with the mini's ruleset. The issue is the AI is completely braindead. The game is meant to be played MP, which I think is a terrible trend in wargaming these days. The mindset that there is no need for a strong AI because you can just play another human is foolish IMO. I'd venture to guess that the overwhelming majority of wargamers play solo.
That is why I really like CoH. There is MP availible, but the AI was designed to be an effective enemy. Eventually a player can exploit the AI's limitations, but it is much harder to do so than FoG and many other wargames.
Wow, that's good to know about FoG. I've been wanting that game for a long time, but if the AI sucks there's not much sense in getting it.
So far this weeking (as of Sunday, 6pm, the rest of you are probably already sleeping) I did play some Oblivion and am on the verge of getting to the point where all the Oblvion gates start opening up.
I reinstalled and played an hour of Alice: Madness Returns.
And I installed some mods for Skyrim, but I am currently installing the Graphics Overhaul 2.0 for Morrowind. I think I might just shelve Skyrim for a while; I really have always wanted to play Morrowind and I might also put Oblvion as well to play Morrowind. I don't know that I can play two of these games concurrently and so much time has passed between when I started my saved Oblivion campaign and now that I've sort of lost track of what is going on.
Strangely enough, I haven't played any wargames whatsoever, it's been full-on geekfest.
Oblivion was a horrible game IMO. Morrowind the other hand is one of my favorite RPG's of all time. I think next to WoW, Morrowind is the game I've sunk the most time into. SKyrim is catching up though.
Getting more CTD's with Skyrim. On my way to fight the dragon in Kynsgrove and I get a CTD as soon as I get the the dragon mound. I think its one of my mods but I'm not sure which one it could be. If I can't get it fixed then I'll probably shelve the game for awhile.
I'm of the opposite opinion. I thought Oblivion was pretty good (I never played it until several months after it was released and lots of mods were out for it though. I have no idea what vanilla was like.) I absolutely hated Morrowind though. It felt like the devs spent all their time creating the topography and then forgot to build a game world on it. Dull quests, generic NPCs that all seemed to have the same 3 lines of text, and zero play balance. I was pretty much invincible by the time I was around level 10 or so. Exploring the island was fun for a few hours, but that was the only interesting part of the experience. The res was just a dull, repetative grind.

I've been mostly playing, (or trying to play) successful Walrus driving in Carrier Command Gaea Missions, Siren based crowd control with purple bubbles in Borderlands 2 and yappy dog murder in Tokyo Jungle. With some Android loving over an abstracted RTS/Missile Command hybrid called Silo MAD, and some frustrating die roll based adventuring in Victory Point Games Loot and Scoot. Busy weekend then.
Skyrim is easily the most immersive environment I have ever experienced in a computer game. Seriously, I don't see how you can go wrong with it.
RPG purists will certainly find stuff to nitpick, and maybe it does get tedious with the dungeon crawling, but still, the game as a whole is just fantastic. It's the kind of game where you honestly just want to take a few minutes and admire things for a while.
If it's not my favorite game of all time, it has to be in the top 5, and I've played a LOT of video games in the last 25 years or so.

+1. Morrowind was the first RPG to really grab me and not let go. I loved it. While I did enjoy Oblivion too, the fact that all creatures and NPCs in the game leveled up with your character killed it for me. I never really felt like my character was progressing and that robbed quite a bit of enjoyment from me.
Exclusively played AJE at the weekend. Nothing else got a look in!

Pretty much the same here. Pescrinius Niger's endless saga sucked me in. What's up with that Septimus Servius guy? Who died and made him emperor? I did do a tiny bit of Harpoon 4.1 and a few minutes of ROF.
